Session notes - session 1 - client EM

 

EM is friendly and eager to open up. Promising subject.

 

 

Client referred by OBGYN - middle of 2nd trimester - concern over possible pregnancy related stress - Q about family.

 

 

A she likes her family, she had a good upbringing. Only child. Wanted children of her own for long time. Adopted a distant cousin from overseas to give her a better education. Now she has married and moved in with the father of her future child ("Finally" she says exasperated) and she worries things are falling apart.

 

 

Q what the problem is. A where to begin?

 

 

She thinks her mother is having an illicit affair with her masseuse.

 

 

And her father is "Definitely fucking one of the strippers from my husband's club" (her words)

 

 

But she's convinced her parents still love each other.

 

 

Sex is just sex, according to her. It doesn't preclude love. Q Why she it is so important for her to believe this. A she works part time -

 

 

and between that and pregnancy she's either not home or resting - and her husband hasn't touched her since she started showing - but she knows he still has needs he has to take care of - she's sure he does it at the club ("Just hope he's not fucking the same slut as Dad" - her words)

 

 

and she's pretty convinced he's also sleeping with his bartender - a black girl - Q why she felt the need to mention her race - A no reason - that's a stupid question

 

 

Silence - she doesn't want to continue - no Q - wait for her to get up the courage - finally with a sigh, starts talking about a trip - her friends from her youth, Anna and Jimena, moved out west - she took a trip recently to visit them

 

 

They were happy to see her and congratulatory about the baby - she looks up to these girls - they did it "the right way" she says - they stripped while they were young - saved their money - and got out of town to somewhere nicer.

 

 

She likes their new digs - compliments them - now she's quiet again - not sure to continue - but then she does - Anna told her she was clearly too stressed and she should check out a certain masseuse they visit

 

 

EM was conflicted, considering her suspicions about her mother, but on the last day before flying back, she took their advice - it seemed like a nice upscale place

 

 

Guy there gave her a competent massage - said it was especially good for pregnant women

 

 

But his hands strayed where she didn't expect and she was startled - 

 

 

and told him that wasn't what she came for -

 

 

But he said this was the service he offered and why he was recommended to her - and she thought about how everyone around her was cheating and she was having no sex and she just said screw it time to have some fun

 

 

Said she felt guilty after - but she wonders if the only reason she feels guilty is because she thinks she's supposed to.
