Inspiration - maybe...just maybe
I'm rather disappointed with the Hearthfires houses (not enough stuff for a figure as pivotal as the Dovahkin IMO). I don't like most of the player abode category on the Nexus, several seem geared toward being game breaking (get all the mats you ever want!, get all the potions/spells at level 1! etc), or I just don't like the layout or scope of, don't like where it's located, etc.
So for a while now (about a month or so), I've been messing around in Creation Kit, figuring things out as best I can regarding statics, landscape, etc. My initial goal being to create a palace worthy of the Dovahkin, but not immediately accessible, sort of quest related. I was thinking a good place to initiate it would be post-civil war. Where the party who you backed (that should win, unless you have something like CWO installed), gives you a land-grant somewhere as a reward for your support. Having a palace would also suggest having servants and guards (giggity). Hence a few new-ish NPCs available to be hired/acquired etc.
So last night I was working on the layout of and filling my newly designed interior cells with clutter (ugh - so time consuming), when I had a thought...the Dovahkin/Dragonborn is something of a religious figure in a sense. Talos (Tiber Septim) was Dragonborn, called by the Greybeards and trained by them. Very similar. So why not a Talos cult? One that seeks to worship a new mortal embodiment of Talos perhaps? Maybe that worship could entail quite a variety of activities?
So I banged out some of the thoughts I was having into this last night, and I am pretty sure this is the direction I am ultimately heading at this point. Whether or not I ever reach my destination is another story, I have lots of ideas, but maybe not the skills (particularly with a few animations I was thinking about) to properly execute them, but I'm going to give it a try.
Here is my outline as I wrote it up last night:
You are the Dragonborn. Quite possibly a mortal imbued with the spirit of Divine Talos. There are some in the lands of Skyrim who, having heard of you, wish to devote themselves, body and soul to the Dovahkin. In a land torn apart in a bitter civil war, a land whose patron Divine is under assault by the Thalmor and the Empire, you stand tall as a beacon that these potential followers will kneel before and worship, if you so desire. If they can be found, and rallied to your cause.
There is one who will have the will and the words to ignite this flame in the hearts and loins of potential worshippers.
Basic Outline:
Locate your new high priest or priestess to become the master/mistress of your new temple. They will build for you a palace befitting your glory, and strengthed to resist your enemies and protect your flock.
Build up your conclave of priestesses or priests (or both) and guide them in the proper ways of gaining your divine favor. Bless them with ecstasy and euphoria and they will exert your influence. Send your missionary to the holds and villages to find converts willing to give themselves over to your will utterly.
Find potential converts in the holds, towns, and villages of skyrim, or wandering the roads. They will not be immediately willing to permanently relocate to your temple, but will take much convincing. Some will work as temple guardians, fierce and unrelenting followers armed with sword and axe ready to cleave your enemies. A couple may be effective missionaries, able to spread word of you the breadth of the land. Others may have little skill, but will be willing to service you in all ways you are willing to instruct them in. A spare few will have very special skillsets for handling unique situations.
Palace large enough to contain a personal, as well as temple, armory. Large trophy room. The typical crafting areas, temple garden, etc. Devious Devices enable dungeon. Manage the armor sets used by your temple guardians and the uniforms worn by your other worshippers.
House up to 16 NPCs at a time in your temple. Conduct group worship services or have them conducted for you.
Protect your people from assaults by the Thalmor and Empire, who continue to exert undue influence in Skyrim after the civil war and the fall of Alduin. Convert, enslave, or kill them when they assault your temple or your people.
Fend off attacks from the Thalmor and the Empire that will grow more powerful over time. They will attempt to infiltrate your new temple. Find them when they do and enslave or convert them to serve your will.
The Thalmor will establish secret bases from which to assault your people, even if they lost the civil war. Talos worship, especially the deviancy of which your propogate, must be destroyed at any cost.
