How to set Fallout 4 ready to mod (with CK, and play with mods)?

Recommended Posts

You need to download Bethesda Launcher and make a bethesda account to download the FO4 CK

Apart from that everything is normal as Skyrim. Except you'll get a shitton of warnings that you could safely ignore.

I thought you had to fuck with the ini settings to enable mods in Fallout 4? Did they patch that?

I would recommend to use Fallout 4 Configuration Tool, this will set your game up for modding and set the INI files to read-only so Fallout itself will never ever be able to break your mods.

You might also want to set this up as your game launcher, then you have to change the executable to F4SE in the settings (if you use that).

Only downside of the read-only status is that Fallout can't save anything when you change settings in-game (sound volume or pip-boy colors for example). But you just want to edit any settings over the tool anyway, most of the relevant stuff is there with tooltips plus a browser for all possible cvars.

Guys, there's some miscommunication here, Delzaron is asking about how to get the game ready for him to make mods for it (hence he mentioned the Creation Kit).

Hum... the bethesda fallout 4 server is in maintenance... They updated the CK (I have an archive of it, somewhere, but it's a two years ago version) ?

Not entirely sure if they upgraded it in the past two years. The servers can't be in maintenance that long, can it.

Didn't he say that he just got the game, and asked for the required changes?

You still have to set the archive invalidation, and you also have to make the INI files read-only. NMM can do the archive invalidation, but the read-only status doesn't work reliably.
