Horrifying slowdowns

Upd 2: It seems SexoutXP is the culprit. I've also updated Hookups and BrutalRapers, so not 100% sure it's the XP addon, but since everything is working nicely right not, I'll just finally play for a while.

 

Upd 1: Alright, it seems to be one of the Sexout addons, not Sexout itself. Will be testing them one by one, then.

 

 

After loading the game, it runs fine, but then gradually, over the next 20-30 minutes, performance degrades until it's nothing but an unplayable slideshow. Even more so around NPCs. Goes without saying that restarting the game every 15 minutes isn't much fun.

 

So, I've been tearing my hair out for the past week, trying to figure out whether it's some graphical setting or just game's own bad coding, and looking for and trying all kinds of fixes. Until it hit me... What could be the most CPU-intensive mod in my load order? So, I removed all Sexout stuff and bam - no more slowdowns. Silky smooth for hours.

 

Obviously, I'd rather not abandon this mod, if I can help it. So, could it be something I've done (or didn't), or a specific addon, or a setting in MCM that would fix this?

Could it be something to do with the scanner? I've noticed tons of "scanning..." lines in the console, with an occasional "NPC added to 00000000" and "Casting 00000000 on player". And they never stop. My guess is that's how it's supposed to work, but performance degradation feels like something just keeps piling on without being properly flushed, so maybe something isn't working right.

I have seen similar issues, though mine have been minor when compared to yours.

 

I have noticed that save->exit game->re-enter game->load save will temporarily clear it up (usually).

 

I have noticed that where my character is located can be relevant.

 

I have some guesses about how this happens but I do not understand enough about how things work to figure out how to look for this problem's cause.

A large cause of slowdown is too many actors in the cell. Do you use population mods (repopulated wasteland, populated casinos, etc)? Many sexout mods affect every NPC in the active cell, so a population mod + certain sexout plugins = Epic Lag.

Try typing "pcb" w/o quotes in the console, and see what happens. That purges internal and external cell buffers, sometimes it works. Sometimes not.

I was suffering the exact same problem and after reading this thread I removed SexoutXP, and now the problem is solved. Looks like you've found the culprit!

Yay! Thanks, NE! I was gathering up the courage to spend time playtesting my theory, but since removing that addon worked for you, it looks like I don't have to, anymore.

i dont have sexoutxp but i do have the other mods that were mentioned and i have the lag issue. it went away for a while but came back when i updated sexout. so i aint sure what what happend.

Might fit this topic...and maybe some people experience the same problem and want to solve it

 

I have a decent machine but suffered a very special lag when in interiors...

after walking a while the game began to stop for a millisecond every 2 seconds which became more and more heavy the longer I was inside resulting in a very annoying game experience...after going outside everything returned to normal after a short period...I spent a hole month analysing and testing to find out that SexoutSlavery.esm and SexoutLegion.esm are responsible for that...I had to keep WorkingGirl by all means so I tested it with disabling SexoutSlavery.esm and all SexoutLegion mods except SexoutWorkingGirl.esp...and that solved the problem for me

 

(I tested it a lot...it`s no bad machine, it`s no bad graphics, it`s no bad config, it`s no bad LO, it`s no mod conflict...it`s something with the game engine I think)

 

...maybe someone has the same problem

I was having the same problem, don't know the cause or if it was a conflict with another mod, but I got rid of the slowdowns once I disabled SexoutLust.esp

and SexoutLust - oHUD.esp. Not blaming either of them, just saying that is how I got rid of the slowdowns.

Well, well now...I think I found a fix (for mine at least). For some reason, I've encountered strange VATS coding showing up in the console during my slowdowns in the NCRPrimm mod, Populated Casinos, and others that bring more NPCs to certain areas (even some Warzones were impassable, and prone to CTDs). And yes, I've kept the Sexout mods listed above active, so by disabling them, I've had no VATS coding show up nor had any slowdowns.

 

Out of curiosity, I just installed VATS Disabled and VATSPerksNoMore from the Nexus site (just disabling the kill cam in Gameplay didn't work to fully disable VATS), and so far I've had no CTDs or Slowdowns in 40 minutes of fast-travel to the problematic areas. And no obvious changes to any of the Sexout mods (so far; yet to 'get' enslaved in order to test those mods for the fix).

 

Of course, since I've always hated VATS to begin with, this has not affected me in the slightest.... Of course, if I could replicate the VATS coding error in the console, then I'd show it to the modders here and see if they could create a fix in their updates.
