loopie Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Hi guys I am getting a lot of missing textures, which also cause eventual CTDs once I run into too many of them or too fast in the game, as per attached screenshots. They can happen anywhere on anything, NPCs, equipment, clothes, weapons, misc objects, furniture, terrain features, etc. literally anything. They started appearing after I installed a mod from nexus, http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31380/? so that is the culprit. Obviously I could uninstall it, clean the saves etc. and even restart the whole game as I am early enough, but I would really really love to have this mod in a working condition in a working game, so any way or anything can be done to fix this ? Also, in past, on rare occasions I had similar issues with other mods, so I think if I can find a fix for this, I might be able to also fix several other things as well. I use loot, FNIS and clean mods with TES5edit religiously. So none of the applicable issues from those apply here unless there is something very specific. I have also searched and did a bit of reading on the subject so far, but came out mostly empty handed for this stuff. Found one post on reddit which looks to be a similar issue and had something to do with something called "LOD" ? But ... I don't have any LODs in any graphics setting options or anything like that and have no clue what it is or how to deal with it. 2nd thing I dug up is load order problem. Between the mod and the high res texture packs and / or high res texture update. I tried the game with the mod put manually before high rez texture packs and update, between texture packs and update, and after them (which is its default) but all yielded the same results, missing textures and eventual CTDs. 3rd thing I dug up is that some people have been able to fix this using ENBs. I kinda looked into that in the recent past, but ENBs in general are just too complicated for me to use, also they seem to up the graphics and my system while not weak, is no longer the latest and greatest, so if I were to resort to use ENBs, I would need some detailed step-by-step instructions along with some direct links as to how to increase, instead of decreasing performance using them. Guest Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 When you have a problem like that it is because some textures are missing (as you said in your title.) Now, finding the culprit mod cannot be easy. How do you install mods? MO, NMM, Manual? To find the guilty mod I will use one of your screenshots, but you need CK to do it. You last tumbnail shows a decoration item (Static) with the shape of a fish. It should be fair easy to find in CK, then find the NIF that is used, edit it in NifSkope, and find which one is the texture associated. Then just be sure to have the mod that adds it re-installed.

It should be fair easy to find in CK, then find the NIF that is used, edit it in NifSkope, and find which one is the texture associated. Then just be sure to have the mod that adds it re-installed. Hi I already know which mod, its Lakeview Extended from nexus http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31380/? again, I would like to fix this if possible instead of deleting the mod. Of course that is an option, but its such an awesome mod if I could get it stable. Perhaps I did not go into enough detail on the problem description, so let me repharse a bit: Some textures in the game, at random, which can affect anything, random objects, NPCs, terrain features, literally anything are missing. When I reload the game, they are back, and some other ones are missing, so on and so forth. So it is not a matter of a few missing textures and editing them, I would literally have to redo entire skyrim in order to be rid of it this way. Also, they are not entirely missing, as they are actually there just not displayed, since different reloads of the same save give me different "missing" textures, and the ones that were are back where they are supposed to be. In addition, I am an end user, things such as nifskope are far far far far far far far far far far far beyond me, I am not a modder or even remotely any sort of computer pro. I can't even properly use texblend and it causes drama in the game when I try. My modding expertise ends on using the slides in bodyslide, save / script cleaner and sorting load order. So, I have no clue about nifscopes, but even if I did, which I gather is some sort of a graphic / texture editor ? I would literally have to go over every single texture file in the entire game to fix it because of the above described "jumping around" of those "missing textures". They are in the entire game, and move around with map and game relaods. I can even fast travel to a location, see some different missing textures and fast travel back, and the missing textures on objects that were will be back, but some other ones will be present. I installed all mods manually, because both NMM and MO were causing drama. NMM wanted to always update stuff that I didn't want updated and MO would not install stuff into data folder and caused drama with with FNIS and SKSE. Game mod install order was roughly as follows: 1. Install the game and official (bethesda) content 2. clean with tes5edit 3. install unofficial patch(es) (using the legendary edition patch) 4. Install SKSE and SKY UI 5. Install netimerse override, jcontainers, jcontainer safeguards 6. install fnis, run fnis for users 7. run default skyrim to set options, key bindings, get ini files set (created) and get 1 save. 8. delete the above save and install Alternate Start, racemenu, all their requirements. 9. install bodyslide, XPMSE, bodies, body textures, skins, hair, HDT, physics etc. 10. install framework mods such as sexlab framework etc. and any of their respective requirements. 11. install any non sex stand alone mod such as Longer days, quality map, immersive amazing follower tweaks, etc. these do not affect the sex mods or anything related to here as they do not deal with textures in the game. 12. install plugin mods such as devious mods, hentai creatures, etc. etc. and their respective requirements. 13. install any other leftover mod. Every step of the way I would re-run Loot and FNIS. Also, completely deleted the saves and restarted from fresh body created via racemenu. I also always re-install SOS and XPMSE in that order, after I finish the installation and after I run bodyslide and end up with bodies I wnat on both PC and NPCs (since i can go to crowded locations via alternate start right off the bat). The mod in question, Lakeview extended, I installed very last because it states that it requires the default lakeview mansion to be developed in order for proper install, so I had to get to that point in the game to install it. Also, you mentioned something called CK ? What is it ? Is it end user usabale or only modders / pros ?
Guest Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Mh. How much memory do you have in your graphic card? Try to remove the High Res texture pack that are from the normal Skyrim download. If the problem goes away then there is a problem on the memory of your graphic card. You can try to reduce the size of the dds using BSAOpt, in case this is the problem.
RW311 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 bsa opt guide here.... http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:BSA_Extraction_and_Optimization#tab=Setup_and_Use_of_BSAopt I used the texture optimizer because i had the same problem as you after I upgraded to win10 and found it can't use most of my vram and I had a bunch of 4k texture mods and I didn't want to rebuild the entire list again. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12801/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D12801%26preview%3D&pUp=1 So I had to instead reduce them all to 2k but it looks fine.
loopie Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 Hi I was also thinking that it feels to me as if the actual VRAM hit its limits. I have a Radeon HD 7870 with 2 gigs of DDR5. System has 16 gigs of corsair DDR3 and the CPU is i5 3570K, the vid card and vid ram are slightly overclocked (about 10%) so I tried resetting to defaults etc. same result, that didn't make any difference. CPU is running stock 3.4 GHz with turbo enabled via mobo up to 3.8 GHz. There is plenty of cooling for both and temperatures are well within norm even at max load or nearly max prolonged usage. I will definetly give the BSA and the texture optimizer a shot, see what happens. Will disable / delete the official high rez stuff, that might actually help quite a lot. Below are my skyrim ini and skyrim prefs ini so you guys can see what options I have. It is also entirely possible that there is something wrong with them, though I did not mess with them at all until I ran into these issues, also have the originals backed up, so restoring defaults is not an issue. In addition I run ENboost ini, its in the 3rd spoiler and it actually does help the game run smooth, noticable improvement. May take me a day or 2 to go through this stuff, but I will and I'll update the results. loopie Posted March 29, 2016 Author Posted March 29, 2016 bsa opt guide here.... http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:BSA_Extraction_and_Optimization#tab=Setup_and_Use_of_BSAopt I used the texture optimizer because i had the same problem as you after I upgraded to win10 and found it can't use most of my vram and I had a bunch of 4k texture mods and I didn't want to rebuild the entire list again. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12801/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D12801%26preview%3D&pUp=1 So I had to instead reduce them all to 2k but it looks fine. Just an update, it worked, got my game working and stable. I didn't even get to the BSA stuff and that texture optimizer. Just uninstalled the official high rez pack + the unofficial high rez update. Kept the characters, NPCs, outfits etc. at 4k while switching the terrain features and junk objects to 2k. Since the game is obviously porn modded I care nothing for the terrain, weather, etc. anyways. Thanks a lot ! Solved the issue.
RW311 Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Good to hear. The texture optimizer does not force compression of 4k, it's an optional switch. I would still recommend running it when you have a lot of loose texture files in the data directory because it makes a very noticeable difference in vram use even without compression since many of the textures are not optimal size for the game. I really can't tell a difference in my game after compressing everything to 2k and I run at 1440, unless you did a side by side comparison of the same texture it's not noticeable. The high res paks are already at 2k so if you were to compress any 4k textures to 2k along with optimizing all the loose files you could probably run it again. Here is a link of an updated ini file for the optimizer for anyone who want to run it, really good tool much easier to use and faster than the ddsopt tool and can compress textures in a bsa without having to manually unpack them first. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/55803/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D55803%26preview%3D&pUp=1
