MLP! Expectation vs. Reality!

Dunno, the show isn't something I really like. The fandom behind it is pretty crazy though. Probably on par with the touhou community in terms of fanworks that are just getting pumped out everywhere.

My only real experience with them was in college. Someone I was sitting next to opened up their laptop and had full-screened pony porn that they forgot to close out of the night before or something.

I simply don't get it.

I mean sure, people like a Cartoon, big fucking deal. But why are people making such a deal about it, on both sides?

As an example, i'm a bit too old to ever get into Pokemon-Fandom. The kids who grew up with Pokemon are now at an age where they are quite vocal on Reddit and Imgur and i'd wager there are more Pokemon-Fans than bronies. But they don't identify themselves "Pokemoners" , they don't defend their fandom as violently and vocal as Bronies. And i'd say the percentage of creepy fanfiction and sexualization is smaller too compared to the size of the fandoms. Same with fans of Dragonball Z or whatever.

Is it the attacks? Did Bronies get so ridiculed that they circled the wagons? What makes somebody run around and go out of their way to label themselves because they watch a silly cartoon? Or defend it so vehemently?  I for one like to watch Game of Thrones but you wont see me run around and call myself a Throner, that's for sure. And i don't give a flying fuck if people like my taste of fictional entertainment or not.

^That.

Sonic and Naruto fans are similar.

Dark Souls' fanbase is a shithole.
Walking Dead has annoying fans too.

It's like these shows they watch, these characters they like, these games they play, they're the second coming of Jebus the Crust and they have to protect them.

They don't have opinions, they have facts, and you can be crucified and ridiculed all over Reddit for disliking a show for little girls.

To quote the Dark Souls community at their prime, "GET GUD FAGGOT!"

These kinds of people make me hate things before even trying them out. I absolutely HATE the Saints' Row franchise because of these kinds of people.

I snapped one evening while people were hyping me up for SR4 and and blocked 10 people off Facebook and stopped using Skype.

Later on I stopped using Facebook because of Game of Thrones being shoved up every hole they could manage to fit it along with some other shows that certainly look interesting but I didn't care enough to watch.

Now as soon as people go "Hey you should watch/play [TV Show/Game]." I immediately think "Oh shit. Not again." and quite honestly shouldn't a suggestion just be "Hey, look at this." and end there? Instead of being reminded of it every hour on the hour of every day of every month until you snap in pure outrage at the absurdity of it all?

This probably belongs in the Rant Thread but I can't give a fuck. I got pissed just thinking about this bullshit.

A friend of mine who lives near my apartment building had his car's windows broken because he doesn't like MLP.

GG, BRONIES!

The thing is, it is a fact that My Little Pony is a cartoon aimed at 6 year old girls.  When grown men suddenly started liking it without the excuse of having a daughter/niece/younger female relative they had to watch it with, they started being looked at as possible child molesters that would watch something childish to get on the target's good side, in order to get into a position to take advantage of them.  Or they were being accused of being man babies or something.  Anyway, that's when the ridicule started.  This is worse than being labeled a nerd for being a confirmed trekky.  Pokemon fans don't get so much flak, because it's a unisex franchise that's been around long enough for current adults to have seen it as kids.  Same goes for Power Rangers.  Even I currently watch PRSMF, to see how Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger got adapted. (ehh...hit and miss)  But yeah, what we mainly defend ourselves from are the accusations of anything that's illegal.  Other than that, if somepony's gonna judge me for liking that show, it's their f*cking loss.  I won't bust anyone's windows for not liking it.  I don't care if they do.  But it would be nice if they understand why people do like it, even if it's not for them.

Big difference between defending something you like and attacking people's personal property, insulting them, etc. simply because they don't like what you like.

Especially when it usually devolves into people who don't like the show or don't care about it being harassed more often and more violently by people who like it than do people who do like it by people who don't. You say it's a minority doing all this but it's getting pretty major.

I can only assume that you are either in a bad area where that kind of thing is prominent, or Fox News is attacking us again.  I've never really heard much about that happening.  But I've heard plenty of cases of bronies being attacked, physically or with property damage, for liking a girls' cartoon.  I think if what you're saying was becoming a real problem, MLP itself would start to being looked at in the same vein as violent video games.

MLP has a strange affect on me. I want to commit suicide everytime I see them.

Nope would be too easy I would rather try to kill all ponies from MLP.

Well my sister did annoyed me too much with it when I was younger.

Ohh yeah. My three younger sisters used to watch it alot. They even had almost all of those pony toys as well.

OMG, they were everywhere! Luckily, my collection of TMNT made their lifes short lived

I give you that. My example didn't take that into account and was maybe a bit unfair.

Yeah, okay. When somebody goes on Twitter or Facebook or smth and says "Bronies are creepy pedophiles" then it shouldn't be a surprise when people step up, call him out on such bullshit and defend their hobby. I wasn't talking about that as much though, but what always confused me about that fandom is so many (granted, maybe it's just a very vocal minority, idk) openly and vocaly labeling themselves. By having MLP-Avatars whenever possible, screaming "Friendship is Magic" whenever they get a chance, making their little Comics and Drawings and Fanfiction and essentially trying to let everybody now that they are Bronies and proud of it. It's ridicolous.

Like i said, from my perception (which is purely subjective obviously) i've never a Fandom that so openly touts their hobby, especially compared to bigger Fandoms. But maybe my perception is skewed. Maybe i just notice it more while already screening out other Fandoms.

I just think people need to be less closed minded about a lot of things. Or at least stop making assumptions.

It really goes both ways.

If the Brony community and the non-Brony community stopped being assholes to each other the internet would be a much nicer place.

But I did just mention the one thing holding everyone back.

This is the internet.

We have things like the Great tumblr-4Chan War, except that was one thing I was okay with because the only people negatively affected were the tumblr attention whores and feminazies.

Not a lot of time, because I have to go to work, but I think we become proud of it due to the irony factor and the fact that the storytelling, character development, and design/animation is just that good.  I was skeptical, myself, but it grew on me, and now I can't get enough.
