thefabulousfink Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 I've still been trying to build a modlist that works for AE and one of the headaches that I've run into is making older survival and needs mods work together. I used to run Frostfall, Campfire, Realistic Needs & Diseases, Hunterborn, and CACO, but most of these mods haven't been updated since the AE release and the patches are hit or miss. What are people using these days to get a reliable survival experience? Are there newer mods that replace some of these old ones or bring them up to date? Should I just use the native AE Survival Mode (I haven't used it much because I liked the mods)? The main functionalities that I am looking for are: 1. Needs: hunger, thirst, sleep 2. Expanded cooking 3. Weather and environment effects (cold, heat, and equipment) 4. Camping equipment that works with the above mods. 5. Expanded hunting/gathering. So what mods are people using on AE these days? Do you have a mod or mod combo that meets at least some of these requirement? Or have you found ways to make some of the older mods compatible with the current game? Thanks.
Duburgue Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 There are lots of different survival mods these days : Last Seed, Sunhelm, iNeed, Survival mod improved, Starfrost and several others. No clear favorite, you have to look and choose yourself what you want. *Campfire is still there. *Tentapalooza and Campfire - Primitive Shelter for more tents and stuff. *Utenlands nordic Tents for a Tent replacer. There are lots of gorgeous bed replacers by the same author. *Apothecary + Gourmet is an alternative to CACO. *Immersive diseases for illnesses. *Lots of different mods for wet and cold visual effects. *Different mods can handle injuries and progressive healing (Simple Combat Injuries or Blade and Blunt for gameplay, Dynamic Scarring and Healing for visuals, to name a few...) *Bathing and dirt mods : Dirt & Blood or more recently Bathing in Skyrim renewed. *Campfire collectible deadwood and branches : to harvest manually the wood to lit fires instead of a black screen. *Usable campfires : to lit and use already existing campfires. *Hunterborn is now often replaced by Simple Hunt Overhaul. *Skills of the Wilds adds new skill trees related to survival mods and campfire : cooking, taming, environment awareness, crafting... And of course a gazillion of patches and small tweaks/addons, this is skyrim AE.
