I bought the game but never played it. What mods do you recommend to (hopefully) totally overhaul it into a sex game?

I'd love to dive right into this with it fully modded for sex. I want it all, no restrictions. What mods do you guys recommend? And should I use normal Sexbound or Sexbound Reborn? It looks like reborn is more recent/fleshed out but has less compatability with other mods?

Also, any non-sexual mods or modpacks (from steam) you'd recommend?

I explicitly recommend against Frackin' Universe (FU). It IS compatible with sex mods, though you can't get sex with FU-exclusive races, and for people that like FU, totally fine to play a sex modded playthrough with it. But it's really not beginner-friendly, it's overly complex and broad with a bunch of systems and crafting stations. If you like Factorio, maybe consider it. I mention this first just because it's really huge and really popular, so you might see it brought up, and it's just not suited to your first experience most likely.

With that out of the way, I recommend Cutebound: Make The Universe a Cuter Place. The art style of stuff leans more anime, it's cuter, and looks nice. But load up the game for the first tiem with no mods, see how things look, then look at previews for Cutebound. Decide for yourself.

For sex stuff, you'll need Sexbound Reborn(not the original Sexbound), which comes packaged together with the base version of Lustbound already part of it, but go to the Lustbound page for other Lustbound addons.

I don't personally like the PoV stuff, I don't use it, but you can look into those too.

Teratophilia is godly, lets you fuck most non-randomized monsters. Like that cute fox, adorable poptops, etc.

Sexbound Defeat and the addons for defeat with teratophilia and other mods is also good. Makes it so you can often have sex with things you beat. Not always, it has to spawn a "node" for where the sex animation happens and if there's no space, they just die like normal, but no big deal.

Despite having that, Aphrodite's Bow is a good addon. Let's you fuck anything, hostile or not, basically on demand. You can max something's lust with a full charged shot or just turn them into a node on the spot with a regular shot. Full horniness makes them seek out a place to fuck, which you might prefer. Fucking on sex furniture can be nice.

TTPP is the Titilating Tentacle Porn Pack or something like that, and at first I didn't use it, but then I tried it and it's actually great. A bit campy, but it has additional minibiomes and structures, it has dungeons, it has tons of stuff in it. And if you like custom races, there's sexbound support for Shoggoth and aesthetically you can have a cool tentacle and biomechanics build for your ship that has lots of sex stuff happening all the time. Or you can weave tentacle porn things into whatever build you want, the world is your oyster, I just htink the aesthetics match up well with Shoggoth in particular.

Then with custom races in general, there are many that are quite cool and supported with Sexbound patches you can find on this forum(I will only mention supported races).

Spoiler

Saturnians and Thaumoths add a nice scifi-fantasy blend with artsy magical aesthetics, the wings are cute, you can craft any wing style you want, many inspired by real moths and butterflies, some pure fantasy. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, they say, and they lean hard in that. I also recommend Make The Saturnians A Cuter Yet Mothy Race. Because they're way too insectoid by default. Keep the moth fuzz and antennae, but human skin and face is cute. You have the option to make only Saturnians humanoid and Thaumoth stay buggy if you want both at once. I assume you're playing solo, but you can recruit NPCs to your ship and maybe you want cute moths and bug moths together. These races also have structures that spawn on worlds so you can meet them in the wild. Adding Saturnians will add to the universe even if you don't play AS them.

Neki are infertile by lore, so if you install that race and use them, you won't make babies unless you mess with config files. But pregnancy doesn't do much and children have a fairly dull role on the ship if you recruit them. You might even disable pregnancy over all. So maybe you would like Neki. They are cute, have great aesthetics, lots of attention to detail I love, and a unique line of weapons based on their claws. It's super close range of course, and this is a scifi games with guns and rockets... But it is not ineffective at all. They're also good with guns though. These, and mechi, don't seem to spawn anywhere in the world, so if you don't play as them, they don't have much effect besides adding their outfits to the wardrobe mod.

Mechineki have a bad ship, but if you use BYOB (Build Your Own Ship) mod, you can bypass that. They're super cute neki robots. Not as much attention to detail as neki themselves, and you can't use neki sleeping boxes or tanks with a mechineki. But hey, you're a robot. Robots are cool. I installed them so I could get a mechneki on my neki's ship as my engineer. Mechineki, unlike neki, are fertile. Don't think about that too hard.

Kitsunes are actually pretty neat. Halfsea look and feel a bit halfbaked, but come with it. The Kitsune Ship doesn't look that great to me but doesn't look that bad.

Shoggoth, that I mentioned before, are pretty good. They seem like they need more, and there's a heavy heavy patch coming eventually that greatly adds to them. They come paired with Mindflayer race, but that one isn't supported with a sexbound patch yet. Shoggoths are neat, they have a bunch of unique mechanics and items, and some great outfits they add to the game. They don't spawn naturally anywhere, though. You could make your own Shoggoth, build some shoggoth furniture, and then let your main character put it together as a house and use that to spawn in Shoggoth NPCs, so it's not hard to legitimately acquire them for crew purposes if you don't want to play as one directly. With the wardrobe mod, there's cute outfits like a nun outfit, some gothic lolita, a jiangshi, great stuff to have even if you play as some other race.

Lamia race is cute, be lower half snake upper half human. The ship looks good, the race is solid, a little lacking in furniture but if you get a lamia bed you can spawn a lamia NPC with a house deed (just might need to remove the deed and redo it a few times to get the lamia as your tenant). Obviously you need to use a cosmetic that hides your legwear or use the limited selection of lamia-compatible cosmetics. But that's not a big deal. As far as I know, they never naturally spawn, so no bearing on the world if you don't make it happen or play as one.

Non-sexually, there's

Spoiler

Arcana(+ Cuter Arcana), Elithia(+ Cutebound Aegi), LostBound, Cutebound Objects, Crew Customization + (let's you fully set each individual crew member's outfit and items), NPCSpawner+ (lets you generate an NPC exactly like you want instead of relying on furniture and RNG, but it's a tier 3 craft station so you won't get it right away), Size of Life (let's make yourself or others different sizes and that can help with immersion, can also be an alternative for making your offspring feel like kids instead of using other mods), Enhanced Storage, Project Knightfall, Project Redemption, all of these do a lot to make the universe more filling and rich. Vanilla Starbound is actually kind of empty. It's not bad vanilla, but doesn't really take that long to see basically everything. Frackin' will utterly obliterate pacing with all the complexity and extra steps, while all these just add variety and cool stuff to fine without overcomplicating things.

There's a hundred other mods you could use, but these are the "definitely take a look at them and consider if you're interested"

At least to me.

Reborn is more compatible as I understand it.

Always use Reborn. Old Sexbound is outdated, doesn't work with modded clients (that people use more and more frequently these days), has less features, is less polished and the only reason Reborn has technically less compatibility with existing mods is because said existing mods are even more ancient and their framework held together by duct tape, spit and voodoo finally collapses with Reborn's more polished core.

Also, you will not get any support for old Sexbound.

Wow, thank you so much for the incredibly detailed response. I'll be trying these out and I'll let you know how it goes.

I was messing around and installed ONLY sexbound reborn, teratophilia, and teratophilia defeat. The defeat file gave me an error and the game crashed on launch. Launching without defeat worked fine. Any idea why that would be? Are there mod requirements I missed?

Also, are there mods that -

Give girls bigger breasts?

Add breast jiggle physics?

Give characters nude skins when not clothed? Nipples, vaginas, etc

I have no idea, would just go back over the instructions for Sexbound Reborn and the defeat addon to make sure you followed whatever. I have sexbound-defeat-2.7.0.pak inside my steamapps/common/Starbound/mods/ folder and it works. I don't know what else to tell you. Make sure you read the instructions on every page you took a mod from.

Bigger breasts would mean they don't align with the armor/clothing layer, so it wouldn't look right with any outfit not also modded to match. Probably out there though. Pretty sure I saw a race on this forum that has big breasts while leaving the rest of the game alone, so it won't mess up all the NPCs and you playing that race can just put only the patched outfits into your cosmetic slots and not show any of the misaligned outfits.

As for physics, there's that in the Neki outfits, and the Neki itself. Plus a lot of sex animations have jiggle physics in them. That's about all I know on the matter, not a subject I put thought on myself.

Yeah, a few. "Get Rid Of That Underwear" is what I use, says its 3.5.0. And it's in my /mods/ folder, not steam workshop, even though it is on steam. I'm sure I had a reason. Maybe I was messing with matching things up with Cutebound or something. Or maybe I just found it here first. Who knows. Pretty sure you're good to use the workshop version.

It even applies to a lot of modded races automatically, no need to hunt down the GROTU patch of whatever race you grab
