Fallout 3 lags on very good rig?

Hello.  I am having decreased framerate problems in fallout 3, but m y pc is perfectly capable of handling it.  What should I do? I'm not going to post my specs as I know that CANNOT be the problem

Fallout 3 is an older game engine and you may be just overwhelming its ability to keep up if you have too many HD texture mods installed.  Another thing that can slow things down is plugins with lots of scripts in them.  Ultimately we can't begin to help you unless you post both your computer specs and your load order.

Moving to Fallout Section.

Post the spec's they ARE needed, no one heres gives a toss about your e-peen dude, just post them so we can help.

There are many issues that Fallout 3 has with hardware, big rig or little rig.  Nvidia has unique issues that require ini edits for example. (personal experience)

Your load order is also quite messy.

One thing you have to remember about Bethesda's older games is that they are processor intensive, not GPU intensive, That means that it's your processor that may be causing a bottleneck. Another thing about older Bethesda games is that they are not multi-core aware, in fact FO3 needs a special edit in it's ini file to help prevent freezes because of modern multi-core processors. Here's the edit:  Some dual core and quad core CPU users have said that by inserting a new command iNumHWThreads=2 under the General section of Fallout.ini, and setting it to a value of 1, 2 or 4 (typically 2), this prevents freezing at certain points in the game. That may help if you haven't got it in your ini already.

Actually, in order to use that tweak, the value bUseThreadedAI has to be set to 1 as well. If those values don't exist in the ini you have to add them yourself at the bottom of the [general] list.

[General]
...
...

bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2,4,8, ... (depends on the number of cores your CPU has)

... and to make matters more confusing, I've found setting that value over anything other than 1 dramatically increases crashes and CTD's. Ever since I put it down to one I've not had a single crash, which is remarkable.

So I guess what we're saying is.... experiment  :P

All I can say to that, is that I never experienced such a thing with iNumHWThreads=4 for my I7 cpu... :P

I never had any issues with nVidia graphic cards and FNV.

You said something about NVIDIA needed special edits... tell me about these please :P

I'd like to know as well. I have a GTX670 and no problems.

Neither did I with an i7. (older model not the current one) Not until I moved to the new AMD 8150 did I start having issues that the thread modifications helped. Recently I too moved to 1 and it is stable as hell.
