Hi! It's me, Runa! I'm going to catch you up. I am the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, and we've gone through a lot lately (it was lately for Skyrim, but five years ago for me). I was kidnapped and forced into a role I don't know that I was suited for, Astrid betrayed us and got killed. We killed the Emperor of Cyrodiil and really kicked a beehive when we did. My mom helped for a while, but she finally decided she'd go finish off Alduin and Harkon. At this point in my story, she just hopped on Odahviing's back and flew to Skuldafn to get to Sovngarde. I had been recruiting and training a new generation of assassins. The old guards Babette and Nazir lived through the fire. Veezara and Gabriella either died or disappeared in it, as well as Astrid. We rescued Arnbjorn, though I think he's taking a sabbatical to think on his life choices. My mom (Destana) was off being a hero. Cicero, I allowed to live after her bit of craziness and had become a useful ally. I recruited Vala Amatius - descendant of Lucien Lachance, a pair of Khajiit twins M'jarra and J'zakar, Undil the Warlock, Azuk the Orc and Arisa. And two old members - Stabby and Averna had come back from work abroad to bolster us. We also had a few low-level initiates who preferred not to share their identities with anyone so they could lead double lives - still being members of society and members of the Brotherhood. The Sanctuary got attacked by the Morag Tong, and bounty hunters had been periodically attacking us in the holds. Wondering what we should do next, I approached the Night Mother. "The child of Lachance shows promise. Take her on another mission. Visit the frightened salesman in Solitude. Thus begins another contract," she said. Not so helpful in the protecting us department. So I traveled to Solitude with Cicero, Averna and Vala. She was particularly nervous about being here, as this is where she was wanted. We found the man, named Percius Crito. "You the salesman?" "Are you from the brotherhood?" "Yes." "You have to help me!" I was starting to think this black sacrament thing was a way to get me to find more random quests. I folded my arms. "Someone is trying to kill me. I think he's a vampire," Percius said. "So you want us to counter-kill him? Okay, where is he?" I asked. "I have no idea! He's been following me for the past several months as I've traveled Skyrim! I lost him in Falkreath. Paid a guard to slip me out of the city." "Did you happen to notice where he was staying in Falkreath?" Vala asked. "No." Not helpful. I replied, "Okay, we'll do it. I'll let you know when he's dead." We walked out the gates and passed through Dragon Bridge, getting another job from the Corrupt Agent. Then about a mile down the road, I turned to Vala. "So we heading down to Falkreath and hunting vampires?" She asked. "I have a job for you. I'm going to take these guys to kill the vampires. I need you to recruit more." "C'mon! I know they're dangerous, but I want to learn. You guys are all pros. Averna is an invisible murder goddess. Cicero is a crazy magic and dagger queen. You - the Listener - I've seen cleave more people in half with a greatsword than most the guards in Skyrim, and only fifteen! If they're anything like Babette, they'll be easy!" "First of all, I told you I was 15 in confidence. Second, if they're anything like Babette you don't stand a chance," I said, "Look, this is important. You'll have your time to shine. As you may have noticed, most the people in the sanctuary are not exactly personable. You are a pretty noble who knows how to talk with people." "Am I just a pretty face?" "No. But we do need you to do this," I said, "There's a position the Night Mother wanted for you. You're to be the Silencer." "Well, sounds important," Vala said, "I will carry out your wishes. Go with Sithis." The three of us got in my new sailboat and sailed on the river down to Falkreath (though we had to cross land a couple times). But we came up with nothing. While I was here, took a stroll down to the Falkreath Sanctuary, for nostalgia's sake, and found somebody had 100% refurbished it. The orphan Alexstraza had returned to living there. "Uh... hi. Who did this?" I asked. "Oh, Listener! I wasn't sure if you were coming back. It was a group of vampires calling themselves the Crimson Scars. They've been wearing brotherhood robes and armor, like they're pretending to be you. When they all left for a job, I came back in." "We've been in the Dawnstar Sanctuary. I thought you died in the fire! Though I barely knew you," I said, "Why don't you come back with me?" "Of course. I'd love to," Alex replied, "It's hard being an orphan and stealing from Falkreath. Someday I want to be an assassin like you guys." I nodded, "Alright." We sailed and rode back to the Dawnstar sanctuary, and I slept. In the morning, I talked to Nazir. "Runa, I need to talk to you," he said. "Crazy. I was about to say that." "Okay, you first," he said. "Ever heard of the Crimson Scars?" I asked. "Hmm... it was a splinter group of the Dark Brotherhood made entirely of vampires. But that was hundreds of years ago, and in Cyrodiil," he said, "They tried to take over, but they were killed." "Well, there's apparently a new group here using that same moniker." "That is indeed troubling news, Listener. That make what I have to say all the more dire," Nazir said, "We have a visitor. Come with me to the torture chamber." "Who?" I asked as he led me over. "A member of the Morag Tong. I've been torturing him for hours, and he's ready to reveal all his secrets." I turned the corner and, in deed he was a dunmer, dressed in Morag Tong clothes. But he looked completely unscathed and was just standing there in the middle of the room. "He... looks fine," I raised an eyebrow. "Oh, I used paralytic poison. He couldn't leave if we wanted to," Nazir said. "Alright. I didn't think you were allowed to operate in Skyrim," I said to him. "If the situation calls for it, we are allowed. You killing the Emperor is an example," he said. "Do you have writs of execution?" I asked. "I do. The Great Houses are nervous about your resurgence. This is the first time they've had a common goal in a long time," he said. "Well, that is obviously the answer to who could afford this. The answer: all of Morrowind's richest people," I mused. "The Dark Brotherhood must be destroyed," he continued, then he struggled, starting to get feeling back in one of his hands. Nazir drew his scimitar and slashed him across the neck, "Before you got here, he told me two of his allies were in a cave near Winterhold on the border to Morrowind. We are growing stronger, but we can't fight a war on two fronts." "Yeah, that seems like a bad idea," I said. "Maybe Undil has an idea. He's pretty clever," Nazir said. I walked over to the warlock in the common room and showed him the writ of assassination. "Got any ideas?" Undil scratched his chin, "We can use this information to send the scars and the Tong after each other. We just need to doctor this a little bit. I'll need Babette's help with a copy of the ink and I can make it look perfect." "Just make sure they attack the Falkreath Sanctuary," I said, "And I have another idea." I walked into the common bunkroom. J'zakar was talking to himself, "Oh Mjoll, you are so beautiful. What's that? You hate the thieves guild? Well, so does J'zakar." "Hey, I need you guys to go to Solitude. Go get Percius Crito." "Oh, a contract?" M'jirra asked. "A client. Bring him here, unharmed. Stir up some rumors about taking him to the fortress on the border with Morrowind." "Yes, Listener," M'jirra replied. I took Cicero, Averna and Arine along this time, and used the sailboat on the sea of ghosts to head to the fortress. We were attacked by a Black Dragon on the way. Too bad my mom wasn't here. The soul energy just dispersed harmlessly. When we got there, it was a huge, dark and empty space. The two Morag Tong members were talking, holding torches. "Who are you?" "I'm Runa, the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, and these are some of my assassins," I said. "Are you the descendant of Lachance, by any chance?" He asked. "No, I'm just the one who trained her to kill you," I said. "You found her? Then this wasn't for nothing? Sithis really didn't abandon us?" He asked. "Who are you?" I asked him back "I'm Banus Alor." "You're the guy I saw in my vision. The double soul guy," I said. "It doesn't matter though. The Brotherhood is a poison. And now I can get rid of it once and for all," Banus said. "How could such a tiny force eliminate the Dark Brotherhood? I don't know if you've heard, but we've grown significantly," I replied. "The Morag Tong was weak as well. But the great houses brought us back. I won't lie, a small part of me was happy you were back. That you all hadn't been wiped out. I was even impressed that you killed the Emperor. But I say again, at the heart of the Brotherhood is a poison greed. You won't stop until all of Tamriel bows to Sithis. The Tong doesn't kill unless it is necessary for the good of Morrowind." "Everyone we've killed since I took over had benefitted others. Except maybe the Emperor - that remains to be seen. But like the man himself said to my assassin - such things are a force of change, the killing of emperors," I said. "Your high and mighty drivel makes me sick," Banus said, "I was going to let you go. I was going to go home and tell the Great Houses that I had killed you all. You don't kill for good. You kill for the sake of death, to create chaos! My soul is as black as night, but it's better than you!" He drew his weapons, "Have you ever face off against someone who has an extra soul in their body? It makes one... powerful." He dropped his torch and skirted into the darkness. The other man got taken down quickly by Cicero and Averna. "Arrgh!" Banus shouted, and I heard the sound of him collapsing. "Good work, Arine," I said. I held the torch up as I approached. I continued, "The Night Mother's necromancer was the one who put two souls into this body. And she had the necromancer pull back on those strings. This might've been a hard fight if not for her help. Load these bodies in the boat. There're more phases to this plan." We returned to the sanctuary, and the khajiit twins were just tossing an unconscious body on the deck at the top of the stairs. His head was covered in a bag. "Ah, gods. What are you doing?" I asked. "Percius, as you requested," M'jarra asked. "Maybe handle him with a bit more care," I said, helping him up and removing the wrist bindings. Nazir said, "These two draugr-brains over there decided it would be a good idea to give a client enough Skooma to calm him down enough to kidnap him." "We didn't think he'd have a full-on hallucination," M'jarra said. "Ehhh... that might've been my fault," J'zakar said, "I didn't like the way he kept rubbing my tail, so I might have given him more." "Brother, you are an idiot," M'jarra said. "Yeah, well, you're getting fat, sister," J'zakar said. They hissed and swiped their claws at each other. "Whoa..." Percius said, "Where am I?" I pulled he bag off his head. "That's better. What's going on?" He looked over to me, "You! I was paying you to protect me, not drug and kidnap me! ANd I'm pretty sure one of them tried to eat me!" "Oh calm down," J'zakar said. "But he did have tentacles coming out of his eyes. Might've been the skooma. Anyway, maybe I should've just let the vampires kill me!" "Ok, okay. This was necessary to make it look like you were kidnapped," I said through my teeth, "Though maybe a little too realistic." Conveniently, next to the top of the stairs was the alchemy garden, which Babette was tending. "Babette." "Yes, Listener?" "You have a poison that will simulate death, don't you?" I asked. "Part of my special stock, yes," she dug through a pack nearby, and handed me a blade, and a bottle, "This blade will put them to sleep. The antidote will wake them up. Don't leave them 'dead' for too long or it may be permenant." "Perfect," I said, then I shouted "Family meeting!" Everybody assembled in the common room. "Incase anybody hasn't heard, the Morag Tong wants us dead. We killed their first wave and they sent more. They'll most likely send more assassins. The other situation, is a group called the Crimson Scars, who bear the Dark Brotherhood cloth, want this man dead. Percius Crito. We've crafted a ploy - we're going to have Percius Crito play dead so the scars believe they've done their job. Then the Tong will come in and kill the Scars, thinking they've killed us. And they'll stop sending damned assassin groups here." "Play... dead?" Percius asked, timidly. Undil added, "And these dead bodies you provided, I can make two of you look like these Morag Tong so you can, you know... grease the wheels, make sure everything goes to plan." "Oh I love dress up," I said, "And, these guys who attacked us before, you can use their images on a couple more right? So we have a large fighting force if the Crimson Scars end up being tough?" "Sure thing," Undil said, "Here's the forged writ." "Hot damn you did that fast," I smiled. "Nazir, I've seen you do some pretty evil things in the past, but this is downright dark," Averna smiled. "Yeah, well. New blood comes with new opportunities. I'm getting old. Don't expect I have many more of these kinds of jobs under my belt," he said. Undil cast the spell on me, Averna, Cicero, J'zakar and M'jarra, with Persius in his true form. We traveled back to the fortress in the sailboat, and wouldn't you know, our anonymous rumors worked out. There were signs of people who'd recently entered the fortress. We walked in, looking like the Morag Tong. "Crito! I have finally caught up with you. I've enjoyed this merry little chase you've taken me on across Skyrim, but now it is time for it to end," he said. A vampire wearing brotherhood robes. Jackpot. "You've been a naughty boy, selling materials used to make weapons to those vampire hunters in the south east," he continued, still lurking in the shadows, "Who are your friends?" "I hired them... to protect me. They're assassins, from the Morag Tong!" Persius said timidly. "You fool, you have no chance!" The vampire lunged at one of us. But, there were five of us. C'mon man. Hearing the commotion, booted feet charged into the room from an adjoining room. I pricked Persius in the interim. "Who are you guys?" One of them shouted. "Hey! It's Persius Crito! Our target!" Another one said. "We're the godsdamn Morag Tong, here to wreck up your shit!" I yelled. "Brother, I haven't eaten in days. They look like they'd make a nice snack," the other said. They attacked and we killed several of them before they realized they weren't making any progress. "Wait!" One of them yelled, "Persius is dead!" "We're not gonna win this, let's get out of here and report mission complete to Wulf!" one of them shouted. And they ran. It seemed like it was going somewhat according to plan. All we had to do now was wait for the Tong to attack Falkreath and wipe out the Crimson Scars. Vala approached me in the hall. It'd been a long day. "Hey, Runa. People seem pretty happy. Wanna know what I did?" Vala asked. "What's that?" I sat down on my bed. "I recruited six new initiates!" She exclaimed. "Damn. Good job. You work fast," I said. "Yeah, you were right, I have a knack for this." "I think I'll go see the NM before bed. Old desiccated ladies help me sleep," I joked. "Spluh. Well, mind if I stand with you?" She asked. "Sure," I said. We approached, and I could feel her presence. The Night Mother said, "Vala Amatius, Silencer." Vala's eyes lit up, "Wh...wha...." "You can hear her?" I asked. "I think... so." Cicero, who'd been standing off to the side, gave us a serious narrow gaze. She broke her broom over her knee and walked into the adjoining chamber. The Night Mother continued, "Meet your ancestor." A ghost appeared on the steps, a man in a hooded robe. "Lucien Lachance. In life, you have served the Brotherhood with a passion that we had never before seen. That passion has not diminished in death. You wish to return to the realm of the living, do you not? This woman is your blood." Lucien nodded to Vala, "Come child. Let me tell you my story." As they walked away, the Night Mother spoke to me, "Having the Scars and Morag Tong kill each other was devious and genius. I commend you. There is but one more great task I have for you. Keep in mind..." I'd never heard her pause before. "This is not a command. Merely a suggestion. The necromancer, I have asked him to travel to the Winterhold Sanctuary. Take Vala and Lucien to that cave and offer them a choice of having Lachance bound to Vala. Additionally, we must fill up our sanctuaries again. Appoint leaders for each Sanctuary, and the two Speakers. Assign each Speaker to a Sanctuary." "It will be done," I said. I slept the night and got Vala in the morning. I said to her, "Gather everyone at the Winterhold Sanctuary." Then I gave her directions. I walked up to Nazir, "Nazir. I hereby promote you to leader of the Dawnstar Sanctuary." He nodded, "That's great! Getting too old to go out on missions myself." I turned to Babette, who was sitting at the table, "Babette, you will be the leader of the Winterhold Sanctuary." "I am honored, Listener," she replied. "Honestly, I would appoint somebody to Markarth, but the damn entrance is sealed shut. We need to take care of that at some point. Also, after the Falkreath Sanctuary is cleaned out of vampire guts maybe we can take it back. They refurbished it for us!" I laughed, "Vala is going to continue to fill the sanctuaries. You guys can pick who goes to each initially kickball style, or just have them pick." "Where will you operate out of?" Babette asked. "I dunno. I have been thinking I want to check on our old hideout in Bruma, if things get settled here. And since apparently Vala can hear the NM you guys can get your sanctioned missions from her. I imagine once I get back I'll travel between the sanctuaries. Perhaps, carrying correspondence as well. I do have the fastest horse in Tamriel!" I smiled, "Let's go to Winterhold." When we got there, everyone was gathered and I led them into the ritual chamber. Except Stabby. Ah damn, oh well. Lucien and the necromancer were already standing behind the altar. Vala and I approached. I explained to her the situation. "This sounds a little strange... having another soul in my body. But if it is for the good of the organization, then of course I'll do it. I'll have a lifetime of assassination experience in my brain to pull from," Vala laid down on the altar. The necromancer started to concentrate, "This will take a moment." "Hmm... I was speaking with Banus earlier. Out of curiosity, what exactly is going to happen?" "Lucien's soul will be bound to the body of Vala," he replied, matter-of-factly, "Their blood will connect them and give them strength beyond any mortal. They will be unstoppable." "Are there drawbacks? Banus seemed... on edge." "Want to know the truth?" The necromancer-lich asked. "Of course." "Over time, Lucien's soul will overpower hers. Her soul will be gone." "Gone like, to an afterlife?" "No. Gone like swallowed. Like nonexistent. Part of Lucien, forever." I blinked, "Stop the ritual!" "Are you sure?" The necromancer smiled. "Stop the damned ritual!" I put my hand on my sword. The necromancer chuckled in a deep, foreboding tone, "I like you, Listener. It has been quite long since anyone had the gall to threaten me. Very well." Vala opened her eyes as the necromancer stopped his ritual, "What happened?" "I stopped it." She sat up, "Why? I want to do this! I'll be able to help the Brotherhood more than I ever could!" "I know. But I just learned you'd cease to be you anymore." "Oh. Well I guess no one mentioned that part," she said. "Sorry Lachance," I said. "I understand, Listener. I respect your decision." "But hey, if you wanted to take her under your wing, that'd be great," I said. About that time there was a crash, and a bunch of people stormed in. Vampires. The man at the lead said, "You must be the Listener. I'm Wulf. Imagine our surprise when we were attacked by Morag Tong. They were much... weaker than expected. We killed them all, of course, but we lost a lot of good people. And now it is time to turn the Brotherhood into nothing but a memory, one that tainted Tamriel. It is the time of the Scars now, Sithis' true children." "You made us bleed and we made you bleed. Today, it ends," I said solemnly. We engaged, their small force against the strength of the Brotherhood. When the first of them fell, Wulf roared and transformed! "He's a Vampire Lord!" I shouted, familiar with the breed. I knew what they could do from watching my mom. I decided I would do something heroic. "You're just a filthy bat!" I shouted, and ran out the back, leaving the Brotherhood and the Scars to fight. I had no doubt my boys would prevail, even through he summoned a Gargoyle on his way out. As I anticipated, Wulf followed me. We were in the grand empty hall of the Winterhold Sanctuary now. I wasn't exactly sure what I was doing, and had no plan to kill this guy. But I was pretty sure if the whole brotherhood piled on him we would win. I just needed to buy them some time for them to win the battle. "Listener!" It was Stabby, coming in through the entrance. "Sorry I'm late to the party!" "No need for apologies! Help me keep this guy busy," I said. We were both pure melee, so we took turns flanking him and chugging potions, but he was DAMNed powerful. After several minutes, we were running out of steam. He charged a blood storm and blasted Stabby, knocking him unconscious. "Damn it," I muttered as he turned to me. "Give up and face death," Wulf said. "I will never... give up..." He charged a blood storm and advanced, blasting me. My life was draining away. My vision blurred and I heard a distant roar. "What... is that?" "Get out of my way, beef roast!" The creature shouted in a deep tone, charging in on all fours. "Arnbjorn! Thank whatever divines sent you here!" I shouted. He leapt over me, then swiped Wulf, throwing him up against a wall. Then he pounced, slashing at Wulf's chest. Wulf transformed into bats and reappeared across the room. Wulf dropped to the ground and the two slashed at each other, going blow for blow. Wulf and Arnbjorn grappled each other's hands, their strength matched. "You know where your form is worse than mine?" Arnbjorn asked. "What are you saying, dog? You've barely put a scratch on me!" Then he snapped at Wulf's face. Wulf leaned his head back, and Arnbjorn struck. He latched his teeth on Wulf's throat, cutting holes through the Vampire Lord's throat. He staggered back, sputtering. But he wasn't done. Arnbjorn stepped forward and grabbed Wulf's torso and legs, ripping him in half, bottom from top. Wulf collapsed, returning to his natural state. Arnbjorn calmed, and turned back into his shoeless, human form. Before I could say anything, he said, "I never got to thank you for saving me. First from the Jester, then from the fire. I feel like this pays you back a little." "Gods, thank you. Arnbjorn, where have you been? Are you coming back?" He shook his head, "Maybe someday. I think I still need to be on my own for a while." I sighed, "Well, okay then." "Say hi to your mom for me," Arnbjorn said, "Later, hamhock." I walked back downstairs to find the Crimson Scars vanquished and my people standing over a corpse... Vala turned to me, "They got M'jirra." "Could we... do the binding ritual on her?" Azuk asked. "No," Undil said, "But you could bind M'jirra to my body." "No, it only works on blood relatives," the necromancer replied. "That makes sense," Undil replied, "J'zakar. We will find a way to fix this." Vala said, "Okay everyone, stop staring. Give him time to grieve. Let's go home." I pulled her aside with Babette, Nazir and Averna in the ritual chamber. "How did you kill that beast?" Nazir asked. "I had a little help from another beast." "Could it be?" Babette asked. "Yeah, he said he'd come back someday, but not today," I replied. I replied, "Hey, I wanna talk to you guys." "What is it, Listener?" Vala asked. "I know I haven't actually been in charge for a long time. Though it feels like years," I started, "Vala, you've been doing a very good job. I took a look at this Sanctuary before I came down, and it's full of both experienced and new assassins." "Thank you," Vala replied. "I want you to take my place for a little while. Not in charge. Lean on Nazir, Babette and Averna for that. And Averna, you can be in charge of the Markarth Sanctuary. Take some initiates to excavate the damn entrance. Vala, you keep recruiting and dispense the jobs from NM." "What are you going to do?" Averna asked. "I'm going to go check on our Bruma contacts. A lot of weird crap is coming out of these things, and it would be beneficial for us to restart our contracts outside Skyrim. With Astrid dead and Stabby back here, our big, high paying jobs from outside Skyrim have effectively stopped. Maybe I'll set up a cell there," I explained. "How long?" Vala asked. "I expect to be back in a few months," I replied, "Tell me, did the Morag Tong have at least one member still alive?" "No. But! Those were all the remaining members of the Tong. Remember, they were disbanded and were reformed to kill us. And we can spread rumors that the Brotherhood was wiped out with the Crimson Scars' deaths," Nazir replied. "Okay, perfect. I guess I'll be off then. Oh yeah," I took out 10,000 gold and handed Nazir the rest of what I was carrying: 40,000 gold, "Add this to the treasury. I don't need to be carrying a small moon made of gold at all times." "Thanks, Listener," Nazir said. I traveled to Windhelm, and approached the Jarl's throne. "Greetings," Torleif said. "Morning," I said, it still being late morning, "I was just seeing if my mom was here." "Ah! Runa, right? Sorry, I feel like we've barely talked to each other, "Ulfric replied, "She hasn't been here in a while. And Fenrir is out on... some adventure." "You seem bored," I said. "The damn waiting is the worst," he replied, "Want me to give her a message if I see her?" "Sure, sir. Just tell her I went to Bruma. I should be back in a few months," I replied. "Well, I hope she comes back," Ulfric said, "Baalgruf told me she captured a dragon in Whiterun and forced him to take her to Sovngarde to kill Alduin. And she just killed the Vampire King and helped Serana take his place." "Wow, really?" "Yeah. You know, your mother is something else. Kinda glad she's forcing me to marry her," Ulfric chuckled. I laughed back, "But don't think it'll slow her down. Hard to live up to her example." "True. You really want to impress her?" Ulfric asked. "What do you suggest, if I did?" "Learn a shout. I suggest Unrelenting Force. It took me ten years to master all three parts. You're a Nord, it's in our blood. And you're smart and strong, I imagine you could learn 'FUS' without too much work," Ulfric said. I scratched my chin, "That's a good idea. Thanks." I walked out of there, and decided I would take in a lunch at Candlehearth Hall. As I was walking, looking at all the improvements to Windhelm, I looked over to Aventus' home that arched over the side-road from the Palace. And there was a man there, locking the door. "Wait," I said to myself, walking over to him, "Is that you? Aventus?" The man was tall, a little thin, with long black hair and dark eyes. "Hello? Who are you?" He asked. "It's Runa!" I replied. Then I hugged him. "Wow! It's been years!" He said, "I don't get a lot of pretty girls coming up and talking to me out of the blue. Didn't expect this. I like your hair." "Thanks," I smirked at the pretty comment. "Listen, what are you up to in Windhelm?" He asked. "I was going to have lunch at Candlehearth and head south to Bruma." "Really?" He asked, "That's perfect!" "Why's that?" I asked. "Well," he said, a little proud of himself, "I decided I would put my family's fortune to some use and start trading a bit. And maybe I thought I would set up more orphanages if I can hack it." I smiled, "Well, do you need a bodyguard?" He looked at the greatsword on my back, "You any good with that thing?" "Pretty good," I said. "Well, want to guard my weak butt for a little while?" He asked. "Sure. And, uh, if you can provide food and pay for lodging when we get there, I don't need gold for it," I said, knowing I would not need the money. "Wow! Consider yourself hired," Aventus took my hand and shook it, "But, no, I insist. Let me pay you. 100 gold." "Nope, don't need it." "Two hundred," he said. "Please, no. Also, you couldn't afford me if you did pay me." "I can keep going up. Five hundred," Aventus said. "Okay, okay, you can pay me!" I yelled. "Perfect," he said, "Let me start with your food by buying you a meal at Candlehearth. I'd feed you from my own house, but I'm already packed up." "When do we leave?" "First thing in the morning," he said. "Yes, I will allow you to buy me lunch," I replied, taking his hand. And that, as they say, is the end of my story in Skyrim for now. We had a nice meal, I slept at the Inn, and I had some new equipment commissioned: a heavier greatsword, and some heavier armor. I decided I was going to take Azuk's advice and give this a try. I picked it up in the morning, then we traveled south for the border.
