Pics 16: Thunder Gill
I have something new to share with you all, but I hope you will endure me for one more picture post before then.
Stashed away I've got a list of things I want to try in-game. Fishing was definitely not on the top of my list but after walking by the waterfall in Granite Falls the other night, I knew that I wanted to try something there. I read that you could get a rare lion fish in the deep woods under that waterfall, so I set out to catch myself one.
Before starting I want to add, this post might have a long load time. There are many gifs, but I didn't want to see them here in too poor of quality. Wait for the first one, and you're good to go. Thank you for understanding.
To assist me in my task, I brought on master angler Angus O'Rodman, and his faithful sidekick, Shelly.
Shelly is the perfect fishing buddy for Angus. Shes the only one who's as crazy about fish as he is.
Shes also not a big fan of birds, which helps in keeping some of the competition away
I last went fishing about a year ago to catch a cowplant seed, so it has been a while. I decided to do a test run in Brindleton, just to see what I am in for.
I pulled up a couple boxes of herbs. I can use these and the smaller fish I catch later for bait.
After a few minor catches, I'm done frying small fish and it's time to get ready for the big one in Granite falls.
Before my trip, I try to get myself in the mindset of a real fisherman. I stop by a restaurant to eat some clam chowder in the rain.
Angus says that a little bit of rainwater helps to thin out the broth, and it gives the clams that authentic rainy flavor.
The birds might get away with stealing his fish, but they're not going to steal his chowder.
I realize that I need to stock up on more bait, so I make a last-minute trip across Brindleton to the lighthouse. There's plenty of room over there to grab some herbs.
I grab some frogs too, so I can use them as bait.
It's been a day full of prep work. We get to Granite Falls and crash until morning.
Angus doesn't need a whole lot of sleep due to his frequent napping habit, so he gets up at 3am to check on the water.
A couple minutes are spent, and there's a whisper of the day coming over the mountain. The clouds are already settling in. It's looking good.
I wanted to kill some time to get some sunlight, so I send Angus to the local tavern. I'm trying to let the chips fall where they may in terms of what sims I come across, so running into Rondo is nice. I assume he is out here for the Pajama Jam. He's big into the festivals now.
It starts to rain, and Shelly knows it's fishing time.
To catch the lion fish, we'll have to go through the hidden portal and into the deep forest of Granite Falls.
Angus reaches the deep woods to find the hermit already set up on his spot. I will tell you this, when Angus O'Rodman comes to town, most people know to steer clear of the blue. It seems the hermit must have missed the memo.
There's a little bit of bragging and some competitive spirit bubbling to the surface, but nothing too personal. It's a shame brother Seamus couldn't make it here, otherwise this guy would be under the waterfall gargling thought bubbles.
After a couple minutes of aimless bobbing in the water, the hermit finally leaves. What a prick.
Shelly was appraising some nearby twigs for their value and overall crunchiness. She arrives just in time to do her part.
It doesn't take long to realize this is the right place, and the beast surfaces to bear its gills to us. This is one scaly boi.
The early sighting was all I needed to go full steam ahead. I whip out the frogs and herbs and rack up some big catches. One of them is a sturgeon worth 2.5k simaroonies.
This is getting a bit too easy, but still no bite from the prized lion fish.
As I continue to fish, it becomes apparent most of the day has already gone by.
In the late afternoon, the lightning and heavy winds begin to roll in. Shelly looks nervous. I'm nervous too. But we've come too far to back down now, And a little weather sure isn't going to stop Angus "The Angle" O'Rodman.
I decide to make some last-minute bait adjustments. I use some of the smaller fish I caught in Brindleton, but my results are getting worse.
I didn't know if it was going to happen or not, but Angus did eventually get struck by lightning. Getting hit only once is good, considering he was out there all day waving a metal rod in the air.
Something tells me Angus can't perform well with sparks emitting from his clothing. When you get struck like that, you're either dead or you wake up with x-ray vision. I take him inside to get some rest.
While Angus is sleeping off the shock, I'm doing a little internet research to see what's going to make the lion fish show up. Believe it or not, It's tomatoes. The answer is tomatoes. In real life, lion fish are predators that eat other fish. In the sims 4, they eat tomatoes. I mean, you can't argue with a minion pressed into the shape of a plumbob.
I tell Angus to wake his ass up. We're going back out there with the tomatoes. And this time, we're coming back with a lion.
He looks at the water one last time. He calls forth one of the tomatoes I have summoned. It's been a long day for Shelly, but she's not going to miss this.
THE LION FISH! On the first tomato throw the lion fish jumps onto the hook, and into the pantheon of blog legends. It's been 15+ hours, but it has been done. The lion fish has finally been bested.
It's been a long trip, and it's time to go home, but there's still one thing left to do.
We pay a visit to our good old friend the hermit, just to say a big stinky "thank you" for shaking the water around earlier.
Smell ya later greasy
We take a quick travel back to the rental lots, and Angus returns home victorious.
Before I mount the fish up, I have to think of a name. I ended up going with Thundergill. A name with a story to match.
I realized after the fact that I could have fed the lion fish and kept it in a tank. But I'm going to say that nature threw the first punch here. Angus got struck by lightning.
Now that the endeavor is over. It's time to relax and reflect. It's still raining outside. Angus might go out there and eat a bowl of clam chowder.
And that's the end. I hope you enjoyed my fish story. Thank you for reading!
