A Shark Is Fine Too

So as possibly is already obvious, the purpose of this blog is to document the characters, quests, NPCs, and generally all the content for Blaze69's Shark Race mod. There may be some very minor spoilers below.

First, some background information on the race.

Selachii (Sel-ah-kee) - Hailing from the shores and seas of Akavir, this race experienced an event which drove them from what was once their homeland. Little is known of what happened, and most Selachii alive in the Fourth era can only speculate. It is known that the event happened during the Second era of Tamriel's history, and that the ones responsible, could be the other races of Akavir, though even this could be speculation. To this end, the Selachii remnants sought refuge with the Argonians in Black Marsh, who they had already established friendly ties with. They were given a large portion of land in the south of Black Marsh, including some islands off the coast. On of the largest of these islands, they took years to build a capital, naming it Same-Shuto(Sah-meh Shu-toe).

More of their history will be available in the mod, with a book titled "Selachii Legacy"(Same no Isan), along with some other material in the possession of a certain character - more on that one, later.

Their language is based upon Japanese, with only a few differences. One of these being that "Same"(Sah-meh), can mean either "Shark" or "Selachii". Most of the Selachii character names will be and are Japanese, and some characters in the mod may use certain phrases as well. In some cases, some things may not translate well into the game, since the engine may not be able to process the correct accent marks - if any full lines are done, then the NPC will explain it's meaning.

The mod also contains characters of other, vanilla races, mostly ones related to the Selachii Followers or NPCs.

Second, as should be already obvious with the current characters in the mod, and with the planned ones, my choice is not to add characters with no personality beyond their appearance. I have seen that way too often in other mods, and would not want to do that myself. Sure, that goes for the simple and less complex approach, but my aim is not for the work involved in a fully voiced character with a quest, etc, such a those in Interesting NPCs. I would just prefer something that tries in some way to change the experience of the game, adding something to it that the vanilla game does not offer. Surely, (not calling you that!) many follower mods do just that, but with how many mods add a follower to an Inn? With no story, and only their appearance to, in the sense of interest to potential users(not meaning any kind of paid mods), sell the mod? Yes, some of these mods may indeed include a story, but it is not where it should be - it is in the mod's description, in the readme, etc, and not in any way, in the mod itself. So you as a player get the story, but your own character, does not. However, I will say that this is purely a matter of opinion, and does mean in no way to say that those kind of follower mods are wrong for doing things in that way.

So this means a few precepts in creating these characters -

-None of them will be in any of the game's Inns - I may relent on this one, given that I can give them a story in some way. But I want to avoid it, given all the other mods that do so.
-Many characters could be located in what some would call "Out of the way" or "Inconvenient" places. I would agree, but it is not about you picking up a backpack, but enlisting a individual to help you in your travels.
-Even some of the smaller characters will get some story, and some characters serve to fill out things that Bethesda left undone, in a sense. Some characters will be trainers(mostly for skills that don't have certain levels of trainers, or for skills that have trainers, but not being in a certain faction locks you out of training with them), sell items like spells, etc.

Otherwise, the story of many characters will feature varying kinds of content. This ranges from some characters who are Transexual(Futanari, shemale, etc - in accordance with the assets available), Gay/Lesbian, etc. Absolutely no offense is intended, as the intention is to respect these characters, and not have their choices, or simply who they are, admonished in any way.

Alongside this, characters will have their gender displayed, which is explained as follows. However, regardless of this, as said above, this only describes a fictional character, who may indeed have a great deal of relevance to those who may appreciate them, but in no way is their depiction meant to cause any offense, or reflect on any real people.

M - Male
F - Female
TSM - Transexual Male - A male character that, for example, may have female genitalia, but considers themselves male.
TSF - Transexual Female - A female character that, for example, may have male genitalia, but considers themselves female.

The reasoning for this, is due to game limitations, and available assets. Three of the four listed possibilities are perfectly accessible by this point, but assets to depict a Transexual Male character, is not - it is likely possible, however. Though this will not mean any story or writing for such a character will be considered low priority - one such character is planned for the game itself(as an NPC only, however, at this point) while another is planned as a backstory character.
