The End Times - Prologue
4th Era 491. Nirn is in ruin. The End Times are here. Darkness clutches at it with its sharpened claws. Daedra have taken their chance, only to be usurped by those stronger. Any heroes of that era have come and gone. Those few who are mighty rule what's left while champions of generations lost are risen one by one until one can bring an end to it. The champions must bring light back to Nirn. All the champions are cursed by undeath and one must link the cycle, trapping the dark in a circle of flame. The journey is perilous, suicidal but, as long as they don't give up, it will continue.
Saoirse the Ashborn
Saoirse: What is this place?
Saoirse: Oblivion? No...can't be.
Saoirse: But where else would this be?
Saoisre: Wherever it is, I don't want to be here, I've been dead? Haven't I?
Saoirse: Answers have to be up there, nothing more than death is down here.
Saoirse: It can't be Oblivion, it mustn't be.
Saoirse: What I was promised, it was a lie? This isn't Sovngarde, this can't be it
Unknown Entity: There's a head on this one isn't there? Before one carries on, they must understand what they've done.
Saoirse: And who are you to judge that?
Unknown Entity: Someone with far more authority than yourself
Unknown Entity: Just look at what you've done. Those fields of ash you've made, burned homes, children, fathers and mothers. What haven't you done?
Unknown Entity: Was it all worth it? I'd assume not. Funny how you mortals have morals that you seem to break so often.
Saoirse: Is this Coldharbor? Tell me before I send you back to where you came from!
Unknown Entity: Oh I think I've gotten you right. A Vigilant of Stendarr, or at least someone of that ilk
Saoirse: A Watcher of the Dark, and there would've been a time we'd have rooted you out.
Unknown Entity: But that time is not now. The tables have turned, as you mortals would say.
Saoirse: ...
Saoirse: This thing you seem to accuse me of-
Unknown Entity: The suffering you created and perpetrated?
Saoirse: That very suffering. How do I know you haven't caused far beyond what I have?
Unknown Entity: Is that going to be your shield? What about me? What have I done?
Saoirse: That's absolutely my shield. You've existed far longer than I have, and this Plane of Oblivion holds more anguish than I've ever created
Unknown Entity: And you believe this notion that I've existed longer than you? What if for every death another one of myself exists? What if we're merely the judge of those who would pass onto their paradise or promised land?
Saoirse: The Divines are merciful and, while they have their wrath, they wouldn't do this.
Unknown Entity: Have you ever known the Divines to be merciful or good? They'd accept a ninth that didn't become a divine because he was good but because he was mighty.
Saoirse: You'd seek to manipulate me. This is Coldharbor isn't it? You're Molag Bal, aren't you?
Unknown Entity: Creative mind, but you know nothing of Coldharbor until you're in it.
Saoirse: Then where am I?
Unknown Entity: It matters not, but you'll find answers across the fields of ash.
Saoirse: You seek my suffering, do you not?
Unknown Entity: I do not.
Saoirse: Then what?
Saoirse: Is that your answer? A ghostly horseman?
Unknown Entity: Follow
Saoirse: Do you believe I'd follow that to my inevitable death?
Unknown Entity: I offer answers and, if you die, what difference does it make? You said your death would be inevitable.
Unknown Entity: There are only answers here, your death would serve me not.
Saoirse: Then what would serve you? Do you want me indebted to you? As all the Daedric Princes?
Saoirse: If so, I don't want it and I'd rather perish
Unknown Entity: Then do nothing, I only ask you follow it.
Unknown Entity: What is it you have left to lose?
Saoirse: Fine...
Unknown Entity: Good instinct, you might be needing those swords soon.
Saoirse: So what's over there that you're so keen to show me? Couldn't you bring it to me? You seem to be lord of this place.
Unknown Entity: A journey is required, that is all
Saoirse: Of course, what Daedric dealing would be complete without a walk through a red mist
Unknown Entity: It's the red mist so keen on clouding the judgement of mortals. Much of what you've done relied on that mist. It's what led you here.
Saoirse: I don't know what you're talking about, but leave out the metaphors and the quaint and pretty words. They do little to tell me anything.
Unknown Entity: No but every action you make tells me everything. Your grip tightening and your eyes focusing, your gaze...deathly.
Saoirse: And?
Unknown Entity: This isn't survival, you just have a killer instinct that you can't let go.
Saoirse: I'd hardly call it killer instinct when I could be surrounded by anything you conjure up. Imps, scamps maybe worse.
Unknown Entity: Yet you have no proof of it and choose to be ready to kill.
Saoirse: Perhaps, but that instinct has kept me alive.
Unknown Entity: It wasn't an insult, you'll serve your purpose quite well.
Saoirse: And what is that purpose? What do you want?
Unknown Entity: You'll know, but it isn't fate or destiny, for you've already fulfilled that.
Saoirse: So you'd push against the natural order? Give purpose to someone who has already completed all?
Unknown Entity: I wouldn't call it pushing against the natural order. In fact you'd be...no you needn't know yet
Unknown Entity: Look at all of these.
Saoirse: What are they?
Unknown Entity: Unanswered prayers to the Divines.
Saoirse: Do they all end up here?
Unknown Entity: Only the unanswered ones.
Saoirse: How many have I seen?
Unknown Entity: Countless. You passed them in the fog, you've been passing them with every step you've taken.
Saoirse: Do no prayers get answered?
Unknown Entity: Some do, if they link with a greater purpose.
Saoirse: So where am I? Where would have thousands of unanswered prayers?
Unknown Entity: Everywhere and nowhere
Saoirse: That's unhelpful
Unknown Entity: So are the Divines, so are the Daedra.
Saoirse: So you're neither?
Saoirse: No answer?
Unknown Entity: To know who I am would kill whoever you were before. You'd lose faith in your humanity and lose it, leaving you empty, hollow.
Saoirse: And that's a terrible fate?
Unknown Entity: Worse than death.
Saoirse: Have I seen what you wanted me to see, or is there more?
Unknown Entity: There is always more
Saoirse: So what's this place?
Unknown Entity: I can't tell you.
Saoirse: I mean in front of me.
Unknown Entity: A home for those who know what I am.
Unknown Entity: They're violent, insane, you must put an end to them
Saoirse: But they-
Unknown Entity: Use your killer nature, end their pain.
Saoirse: Fine. Let the light of the Divines shine upon these lost souls.
Unknown Entity: ...good.
Saoirse: Only two have ever known?
Unknown Entity: Yes.
Saoirse: Will only two ever know?
Unknown Entity: Yes, only two, past, present and future.
Saoirse: How have I killed someone from the future?
Unknown Entity: Time doesn't flow here, it's convoluted and time bashes into itself. As will soon happen to Nirn.
Saoirse: Is it the End Times?
Unknown Entity: It doesn't matter whether it is or isn't, for you will soon learn what it is. When you turn in your grave and rise from a pile of ash.
Saoirse: How long have I been dead for?
Unknown Entity: It doesn't matter, for your journey isn't one of friendship. It isn't another chance at life. It won't matter whether you've been dead for a day or for an era. You'll fulfil your duty and return to ash once it's complete.
Naren the Wanderer
Naren: Brothers, fear not, for I am here and we are legion once again.
Naren: We might not have been strong enough to push back the dark but I haven't forgotten our duty.
Naren: I hope you're all resting well, you all deserve it. We looked upon the worst that Nirn had and we stood firm to the last, except...me.
Naren: I would understand if you despise me, my desertion was unfair on you. I should've stayed where I was and stood strong. Though I suppose this curse I'm afflicted with is due punishment.
Naren: I miss you all dearly. Even if some of you were a little extreme.
Naren: And I'm immensely proud that you all threw yourselves into the fire to try and protect the people here from horrors they shouldn't know exist.
Naren: It's fitting now that some horror would come to claim me. I've lived on borrowed time for long enough.
Abomination: Kill...the...watch...er
Naren: I, Naren of Dragon Bridge, sworn knight of the Sentinels shall fulfil my oath and destroy the creatures of the abyss, of the dark, or die protecting the world of men.
Naren: Divines, bless this blade with might to vanquish this beast...
Naren: And let this man complete his duty.
Naren: I shall not run away again.
Naren: ...Let this creature be cast out forever more.
Naren: I fear I must leave; there are more to be vanquished.
Naren: And I fear we have not yet seen our darkest day.
Eyris the Emboldened
Eyris: How much further could this altar be?
Eyris: They have to be there. Justice has to be served.
Eyris: It cannot be ignored any longer. I shall not ignore it any longer. They all need justice. Fenris, Esberth, Elizabeth, Horatio. I've been given the gift of undeath, it's time I used it.
Eyris: Justicia, you'll have your revenge, like I promised.
Eyris: He must be here. He has to be.
Eyris: Kladrich! Show yourself
Kladrich: Is that truly what you wish for?
Eyris: Yes!
Eyris: Kladrich?
Eyris: I won't be afraid of you, I have my own flame now.
Kladrich: Yet it shall wither, die and turn to dark.
Eyris: Maybe, but they'll always be a fire somewhere, it'll never fade!
Kladrich: And I will devour it as I have the other flickering flames.
Eyris: You can't scare me away with illusions of dark, for light will always break the dark!
Eyris: Kladrich!
Eyris: Come on out!
Eyris: I know you're here! Now stop being a coward and face me!
Eyris: Kladrich? Maybe he isn't here...
Eyris: I'm sorry, everyone. I- I can't seem to get to him. Everytime I'm close he just gets further away.
Eyris: I've tried everything, I have, really.
Eyris: He always seems to just get away.
Eyris: I will give you all justice but it may be quite some time. For the light of fire seems to have left him and as the world darkens he seems to strengthen.
Eyris: Soon. Soon he'll fall.
Eyris: Whether it be by my blade or another.
Eyris: For the flame may be fading but it's still strong.
Eyris: I shall continue my prayers. I hope they make their way to you. I miss you all very much.
Eyris: ...
???: (Thud!)
Eyris: What was that?
Eyris: What the fuck is that?
???: Sn-uff-out-the-f-fire
Eyris: You're not snuffing out anyone's fire!
Eyris: What? Why didn't that-
???: Fi-fire must-go!
Eyris: What? How-
Eyris: Oof!
Eyris: What the-
Alexander the Quiet
Alexander: You think any of them can do it?
Gravetender: One will. Whether that be you, the Wanderer, the Emboldened or the Ashborn. It matters not which.
Alexander: I meant whether they'll give up or not. No doubt they've been risen for a reason but plenty have given up.
Gravetender: Have you given up?
Alexander: Excuse me?
Gravetender: You're so concerned with the others that you seem to have forgotten your own duties.
Alexander: Hmm.
Gravetender: The world shall not heal until all your duties are complete. Stay silent or speak, it doesn't change the fact.
Alexander: Then I leave tonight.
Gravetender: So you finally begin as the newly awoken will soon begin their own journeys? Almost as though you were waiting for something. Are you?
Alexander: Hmph
Gravetender: What is it? You remember your old life? They will too.
Alexander: They'll be shackled by it, like I've been.
Gravetender: To complete their journey they must overcome obstacles. As must you. The past is only a haunting reminder of what once was.
Alexander: Easy to say that.
Gravetender: Indeed it is. But that'll be the easiest of you obstacles.
Alexander: Hmm.
Gravetender: Quiet again. Cyrodiil awaits Alexander. Best not leave it any longer 'lest you lose your purpose.
Alexander: What'd be in Cyrodiil? Not another Oblivion crisis, surely.
Gravetender: In the mountains or in the valleys, there'll be great lords to destroy. The sooner the better for the New Daedric Lords grow in strength every passing moment.
Alexander: So which am I burdened with?
Gravetender: All but one.
