(upper face half) Masks, what I know

***I've edited the post and title because I wasn't clear in the type of masks I was taking about in, namely a "Zorro" type bandit mask, one that covers the upper face. Also these are ones that would fit my particular use.***

Playing a thief or assassin, I found myself wanting a mask for my charactor. Sadly, these was very few choices to be found.  I came across a few images on the web of lace masks that were ultimately for personal use. Ok, they look like racemenu overlays and we have slavetats.

I made a few and quickly realized what a pain in the ass it was to do. Since the overlay wraps around the head nif, the texture wraps in weird way. It should be done in Blender or some other 3D program but I guess I'm not motivated enough. I downloaded blender and other utils, watched a few videos and haven't touch it in months. I did learn to add shadows for added depth before I put it away.

You can modify existing racemenu overlays. On example is from [Raven's Warpaints] (I think) and I saw one in [Cute Designs by Cosmina] that could work.

I did find some mods with actual masks that with a little editing can be made to work.

There is  a female only Conversion by Arsenic-Skyrim of [DAZ3D  Masquerade Masks] from ARTCollaborations. I deleted the handle in Outfit studio and toned down a few test masks. The masks seems to have the best shape to me. (see his site -  Arsenic-Skyrim )

[Ladymask] has masks with and without attached veils. They are more for Carnival than a thief's mask.  I edited out the mask for the veil alone which  I darkened (found at a chinese or korean site).

The [Princess of Thieves] Mod has a mask with large rings. You can delete that out but are left with the straps to fix. You can hide then into the head mesh but it's pain to do, plus the mask need to be formed to fit better.  (nexus).

[Catwoman]  The mask in the mod needs a lot of work to fit better. (found in the steam workshop)

To me, skyarsenic's conversion of daz3d masquerade-masks are the best. Just edit out he funky handles and maybe retexture and form shape them a bit and they should be good to go.   If I knew my way around 3d programs, would taking a head nif, removing everything except the "mask" then scaling it up a bit be a way of making a good mask?  Probably wrong a dozen ways, but  what do I know.

Final thoughts,  I never liked how everyone in skyrim knows who and what you are. I found an old mod [Hidden Identity by Valdaer] which scripts out bounties? (never tried it).  If only there was something like the grey cowl of noctunal (Is there?).  I tried out one of animal mansion mods some time ago and after a few quests I edited out all the player-alias (plus some funky dialogue).  One of these masks would fit nicely in my style of play.

have fun

 Second thoughts :/

I took a brief look at [sneak Tool]. The author included a tutorial on modding your own masks, but one the features is that npcs wont talk to you.  I need to see what  I can do about that.

Here's a few more masks that are part of armor sets I found on nexus

-Mods in upper face mask.-

TMNT Armor by Higeyosi at the Nexus  (After a lot work in outfit studio and a recolor it's not bad)

[Kozakowy's Steampunk Outfit UNP] by kozakowy at the nexus.  Has a mask  like the one in [Raven witch armor and Apex Werewolf]. Haven't tried it.

[Rascal Outfit] by kind2222 at the nexus. The screens show a upper face mask. It looks a bit on the small side but it probably can be stretched in Outfit studio

-Full masks-

[Dark Envoy] by NewerMind43 on the nexus has a full face mask. I haven't tried it but it might lend itself a retexture and shaping. There is a Venetian Masquerade mask which is a full face porcelain I find cool

-other-

[New Year 2016] at baidu has an outfit called Bad Bunny. Its a really nice mask but has large rabbit ears...

Get this mod, Sneak Tools.

It includes fun stuff like putting out lights, rope arrows and masks that conceal your identity so long as you arent' seen taking it off or putting it on - unless that happens, your masks have their own bounty rating that reset much faster.

Better yet, I think it also has a feature where you can customize the setting so any mask you choose will work for identity concealing.
