first time playing a fallout game, need mod recommendation please

Recommended Posts

hello

friend was always telling me how FO:NV is really good game and since it was on sale i got the ultimate edition on steam, ive never played a fallout game, so it was very strange starting a new game compared to oblivion/skyrim, everything looked so depressing in FO lol but the world looks so exciting cant wait to explore!

anyway i was hoping everyone could tell me what essential mods i need?

defiantly need to change U.I, that camera as well, its like oblivion

i normally always change the default perk/combat system, based on my very short play through the levelling system looks pretty in depth?

not sure what all these body types are? will most likely install the one i seen on LL kendo's type 3 along with his/her textures?

but then what mods do i install to replace cloths/armour and stuff?

graphics mods!!!

basically want to make my game look amazing and install the best texture/lighting overhauls etc my system can handle it

if there is anything that changes vanilla mechanics to enhance game play......any recommended mods i should download and what to avoid?

i want to get the base game all looking good before i install sex mods :D

thanks in advanced

hopefully this makes sense because i was in a bit of a rush

For the first playthrough I advise you to not go the Sexout route, just yet.

If you are familiar with installing tons of mods etc. This is a good tutorial/set up of tons of mods:

http://wiki.step-project.com/User:Essarrbee/FalloutNewVegas

Some stuff you'll need.

Mod manager like Mod Organizer : http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/1334/? (It says Skyrim but also works for Fallout 3 and New Vegas)

LOOT (To sort your plugins): https://loot.github.io/

FNVEdit (Not only for editing ESPs, but also for checking missing mods/wrong load order and detecting mod conflicts): http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34703/?

FNV 4GB Patcher (Update the falloutNV.exe to use 4 GB instead of 2 GB of memory): http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62552/?

NVSE(Get the BETA version): http://nvse.silverlock.org/

Even if the installation of the "Fear and Loathing in New Vegas" is a bit too much. At least read and follow up on the bit called "Setting up Mod Organizer"

(Link again) http://wiki.step-project.com/User:Essarrbee/FalloutNewVegas

Now that the most important tools are set up, We can do the rest from Mod Organizer:

NVSE Extender: http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/553-nvse-extender-aka-nx/

JIP LN NVSE Plugin: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58277/?

NVAC (Anticrashing): http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635/?

New Vegas Stutter Remover: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34832/?

YUP (= like the onofficial Skyrim Patches): http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/51664/?

ok. Now for the mods you are requesting:

UI Mods: (Install+activate these in this order. They are finicky)

Darn-UI (After installing One Hud. Move this mod lower than that): http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1128267-wipzbeta-darnified-ui-nv/

Sortomatic - Modders Resource: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/41142/?

The Mod Configuration Menu (basically the same as MCM for Skyrim): http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/42507/?

CASM with MCM(Autosaving): http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/45652/?

One HUD - oHUD: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/44757/?  <--- This one might not be that usefull for first playthrough as it disabled some HUD-elements on default setting

UIO - User Interface Organizer (Run this after you installed all UI-mods): http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/57174/?

Camera change: (press v to move from over the shoulder to 1st person and back. Hold V to pan around your character)

New Vegas - Enhanced Camera (So you can see your body in 1st person): http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/55334/?

Environment:

Collision Meshes (So your bullets aren't blocked by invisible walls): http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/59149/?

Misc Item Icons - New Vegas (For your inventory): http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34737/?

NMCs_Texture_Pack_For_New_Vegas: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43135/?

Wasteland Flora Overhaul: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/39856/?

Weapons+Ammo:

WME - Weapon Mod Expansion: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/37576/?

CaliberX: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/39981/?

Better Sound:

Improved Sound FX: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35293/?

Body+Armor:

Breeze New Vegas Males: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35451/? OR Roberts Male Body FNV: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/54731/?

Dimonized Type3: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/54438/?

Type3 Body and Armor replacer: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34825/?

Faces+Hair+Eyes:

Ling's Coiffure (Hairs): http://www.moddb.com/mods/lings-coiffure-nv/downloads/lings-coiffure-nv-v42

Beauty Pack PLUS -Project Mikoto- Hair - Eyes - Presets: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35878/?

Fallout Character Overhaul: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/54460/? OR Fallout New Vegas Redesigned 3: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/56312/?

This shouldn't alter the gameplay for your first playthrough, but beautify it.

-----------------

This is a default advise I'd give every new player.

Now for your specific questions:

i normally always change the default perk/combat system,

More Perks: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35979/?

Practice Makes Perfect: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/45604/?

(I personally disabled the Practice Makes Perfect functionality. I just wanted the 'number of perks per level' stuff on the same link)

if there is anything that changes vanilla mechanics to enhance game play......any recommended mods i should download and what to avoid?

What I'd suggest is. Play the game and if you find something annoying, go to Nexus Mods and find a solution for that issue. My mods list contains a huge amount of small fixes.

The only warning I'd give you is, keep the number of ESPs/ESMs below 139 (Even when they are unchecked. They still count towards the maximum)

wow this is just what i needed, thanks so much i was checking some stuff as well (im still reading the descriptions to fully understand them)

ive already installed the stable version of NVSE was just wondering why would s to install the beta version?

was checking the type 6 modification body looks good as well and kendo 2's type 3 body

was looking for the darn U.I because i remember the one in oblivion was good

edit* everything is installed mostly followed step guide but character creation mods are annoying its either cartoony or realistic and not much choice of hair etc

Download only the " Body " file from this mod.  http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35047/?

Don't add it to your game files just yet.  Open up and only grab the Meshes folder.   Go in and remove the nif files, only thing you should be adding to your games   Meshes/character/_male  folder is the animation files from that mod.

Thanks.  I'm in the same position as the OP and that was incredibly helpful.

However, why did you link to an outdated version of Mod Organizer?...  None of the mods that you mention that use .FOMOD were recognized correctly by that version.  Updated to v.1.3.10 and worked perfectly.

@Feckless. Oops. Thank you for pointing that out. I corrected it, and put a note that it works for Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas.

I believe there is also a Mod Organizer 2 for Fallout 4 (that might also work for Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas), but last time a checked (almost a year ago) it was still a Beta version, with lots of bugs.
