I agree with you (look at the first page), but unfornutately many modders want to be asked for their permission...

Permission they've not asked to Capcom or Namco in that case. When I do a mod based upon DOA5 I share it and let everyone do what they want with my work. Modify, reupload, even say it's their work, seriously, I don't care.

It's all about getting some reward for your efforts- Team Ninja make plenty of money already, so we take that as them being rewarded enough, and consider our ownership of a copy of their game to be our right to mess with it I guess. The modder however can't charge for their work, so a little acknowledgement in a credits list or a thank you or just being able to watch the download numbers going up is as much as they can ask for. Most humans like to feel appreciated, I guess you're one of the rare ones Raz, if you really don't care. I kinda know what you mean, cos I make music without ever really caring if anyone else likes it, I make it because I can and I enjoy it, so that's a reward in itself. We're social creatures though, so such an attitude isn't common, most prefer to feel acknowledged for their achievements,  and to my mind that's not such a high asking price for the hours of skilled labour offered on sites like this.

I dont understand the whole "not able to share" thing. Everyone that makes mods is doing it without Team Ninja's permission to begin with, and they are the real owners.

I guess it's an "honor among thieves" thing I suppose.

Modding communities tend to attract extremely fussy, overly dramatic, possibly even unstable people. Look at holdenmcclure's troubles with that Japanese group, look at Tessara or Arthmoor, and you see this stuff just keeps happening.

i'm sorry i understand English, but it is very difficult for me to speak (write) in English. I will try to answer you and I hope it is correct (thx google language).

Most of the posts in this thread are from me. Many downloads, few comments. If i really run after this i would simply stop sharing my work.

I make mods that I have wanted others to do. So for me the reward is the mod itself :)
If my mods can please anyone, I'm happy. Believe it or not, I don't run after acknowlegdement or respect.

Lets say you released it anyways, even against their wishes. What are the consequences for you? What can they do about it? Write an angry forum post you can easily ignore. I don't see why people enable these drama queens.

It's not like they have any rights or ownership over their mods. Everyone illegally modified the games files, and yet they think their work has got higher protections than the developers? Did these modders ever ask Tecmo, Team Ninja, or Itagaki if they could modify the game and make the girls nude, and release it publically? Even when the devs explicitly stated they don't want this to happen, and have punished offenders in the past, they think they own their mods and should control what others do with them once they have publicly released the files. It's absolutely hypocritical.

Honestly the best mod communities are the ones where everyone shares, and no one gives these drama queens a space.

I agree, and that's more or less what I was trying to say, lol, but I guess a certain "honor among thieves" element is In effect here, similarly to how it's considered "wrong" in the software piracy community for one group to "release" a game or app that another group already released. In the eyes of that community, the first group to release it "owns" it. Ya, I know it sounds crazy, but that's how they operate. The even have written "rules" that most of the pirate groups have agreed to.

I've seen games that have multiple release groups before. Probably simultaneously developed. But once something is released there is no point to crack it again really. I don't think it's similar to modding because, modding a mod is not the same as just re-releasing someone else's mod and calling it your own. Which is not what Raz was ever going to do. Even if you did "steal" someones mod and call it your own and release it unchanged, it's not like the original modder ever owned it anyways. But taking another modder's work, and adding to it, is exactly what that modder did to the developers work in the first place. Very hypocritical to get upset when someone made a mod for your mod, when you modded someone else's work to get that mod in the first place.

So why is modding okay, but not modding a mod? 2 rounds of modding is somehow bad? It's all sillyness if you ask me and it hinders a good community spirit.
