Skyrim Lag/Stutter

So for a while now my game has been doing this weird freeze for a second or so at random intervals. It usually happens most often when I first load a save and when I enter a high-stress environment (e.g., combat with lots of enemies). I used to think it was a memory issue, but I temporarily disabled my ENB and run the game at a near-constant 60fps and the lag is still there. Could this be script-related, or something else entirely?

This video (not made by me) is a good example of the problem I'm experiencing:

It may be caused by save game bloat. I'm experiencing this same problem right now with save files over 100 MB and the game freezes periodically and take a long time to save. I'm thinking Slavetats is responsible for this since its been spamming my papyrus log.

Check your save file size, apperantly it should never be over 25 mb even for 600 hour + saves.

Edit: I think ive solved my problem. The papyrus log was being spammed by slave tats reapplying a tattoo on an NPC over and over. So i uninstalled the mod for that companion and my save file is steadily decreasing in size now. The freezing is also not happening as frequently.

I'm not even going past 8 mb for my saves. I think you might be on to something, though; I'll use a script cleaner on my saves to see if that helps. I'll post my results when I finish.

Honestly I started a new game recently and I do get a bit of stutter lag like that as well it seems to happen when it loads cells so when you leave a cell area it will load a new one causing the delay or lag.

Its likely due to script lag. I've been testing my papyrus section within my skyrim.ini file within MO for this second installation of Skyrim I am using for a totally sexed out Skyrim. I've been browsing the forum here for the past two days and havent found much on Papyrus editing.

SL framework and Devious framework and the Mods that go with them add loads of scripts in-game. Scripts can crush your Skyrim Game regardless of hardware in certain circumstances. Be sure to read the comment left by User MasterCobia in that reddit link I provided.

For the past day I've been expermenting with these Papyrus changes because I've been getting the same lag that you are describing which does not happen in my primary installation of Skyrim that does not use any adult or pornographic mods. This is what my current Papyrus section looks like in the MO Profile I am testing:

[Papyrus]fUpdateBudgetMS=3.4fExtraTaskletBudgetMS=2.4fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=800.0iMinMemoryPageSize=128iMaxMemoryPageSize=512iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=76800bEnableLogging=1bEnableTrace=1bLoadDebugInformation=1bEnableProfiling=0

EDIT/UPDATE: I just played with that papyrus section in-game right now and I can't tell if it hurt or helped. The thing with scripts that can hammer your game is that not only do they cause slight stutter or temporary freezing of your FPS but it can cause major delay of other things in-game. In regards to delay I experience a lot of delayed sound ques such as footsteps and pain moans when I fall. So, it sucks. I lowered the Update Budget MS and Post Load Update Time MS and I'm about to go back in-game to test it out. It's all trial and error testing unfortunately.

I reccommend using ENBoost if you are not already as well as Skyrim Project Optimization and Cell Stabilizer.

Here's the quick & dirty version that's worked for a few ppl on top of the numerous system optimizations. Not guaranteed but it helped me.  I have a more detailed post...somewhere.

Delete profile specific skyrim.ini's & pref ini (MO/NMM), delete skyrim (proper) ini's & prefs (there will be several if you've been playing w settings), make note of ini tweaks, launch skyrim through steam w desired setting, re-apply ini tweaks, resume gameplay.

Not sure about the mods you are using, however I assume if you have a lot of then you have setup your Skse.ini to something like :-

[Display]
iTintTextureResolution=2048

[General]
ClearInvalidRegistrations=1

[Memory]
DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768
ScrapHeapSizeMB=256

I'd also like to add that there are certain Sexlab Mods that add a sort of cloak dome effect which are meant to extend to NPCs. SL Approach, SL Attraction, Aroused Creatures and I think TDF Prostitution all have some thing like a range that attaches effects/scripts to NPCs within that range. I can't quite explain it but I know that its not good. I've toned the cloak or range effects to these Mods and It looks like its helping but at the same time I'm using just about every patch or utility or fix to my game so I can't really be sure but I know every bit helps.

hi funnymotion.. your fUpdateBudgetMS=3.4 and fExtraTaskletBudgetMS=2.4 is way too high ! do not get over 2.0 (1.6 at best) otherwise this causes stuttering and game lags. so just don´t wonder if your game doesn´t run smooth with those values set too high.

It actually doesn't matter in my case. I made a post about this here: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/43994-bad-scriptstoo-many-scripts-causing-lagstutter-log-included/

I set those settings back to default and I'm still experiencing the same issues. Whether I set both the first two values to 1.2, 2.4, 8,7, 10.2, 100, 200 or 800 the result is always the same.

In that post I provided a Papyrus Log which shows the Papyrus settings are back to default.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try some of this stuff out and see how it works.
I've also been having some issues with the game crashing upon finishing loading my most recent savegame, forcing me to load an older save first, then the most recent. Considering that this usually happens after I install script-heavy mods, I figured it is also a script-related issue.

Hi new here:

I was thinking about your description of you lag issue, how many mods are you running?  What are your specs specifically VRAM. Could you be running out of vram making the engine page for textures from much slower source (system ram)? I happen to have a EVGA 590GTX a dual vid card advertised to have 3.0GB vram, turns out the dual gpus splt the vram down the middle making your TOTAL effective vram 1.5GB. Kinda disappointed in hearing that but 1.5gb - 2.0gb vram is plenty for most modern games but start adding script heavy mods, high-end textures, ENBs and so on you into Skyrim and you will see a definite decline in performance, stuttering and lag.  The vanilla game rendered perfect on Ultra but as my save game grew and I started adding mods VRAM became very important.  I've been making sure to check the mod's integrity.  Currently I'm at 5036 hrs played and my save game is approx 25mb.   Try looking over this tool made by the great "flexceator" called the Savegame script scalple, It's a little advanced for some but if you follow the given advice Its pretty easy. As always back up your saves always and good luck
