Where do i begin? I have no freaking clue what everyone is talking about.
I tested and played the game for a while now and ready for hair mods beyond whats offered in Apachii. I'm now looking for a good skin texture. in other words, I want gals that look as good as yours.

My computer is on the lower end, but it's been doing fine so far.

I've seen the how to make a beautiful girl thread. What I really want to know is a good started texture. I'm wanting a fair skinned blond for starters.

In the future I want to work on an elf, but they are so hideous right now. The sickly green skin, and the eyes...yuck!

Is there a mod that make LOTR elves? Human faces with realistic skin (the pointy ears are there so we all know this is an elf).

But back to the topic. Skin textures. They all have different names, like mature skin, realistic skin, SG skin. I don't know how to tell the difference between them.

What did you do? Just download until you found one you liked?

I have maybe a dozen in zipped form. My alltime favorite is FSC Univision Sweaty. It's perfect, but you will need to be using a UNP-based body variant for it. If you're using CBBE/Bodyslide then you'll need to find something similar that fits that body.

You can find it here... http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/41051/? ...on the download page of the UNP Top Model body mod. Don't worry, it's not JUST for Top Model, it will work on anything based on UNP (UNP, UNP Skinny, UNPetite, TM, UNPB, UNPBO, UNPC, UNPCM, UNPK, She-Hulk, Venus, Lady Body and the Seven Base variants as well).

And here is the newer version of Fair Skin... http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51602/?

I have used SG/Venus/Mature/Real Girls on a character then as soon as I added Fair Skin (old or new version) they instantly looked 10 years younger.

As for the elves, there are racial sliders and ear types built right in to Enhanced Character Edit (ECE) and you can add Ran's ECEE enhancer to it to give even more flexibility. In this way you can build a gorgeous Nord than just looks like an elf (or a half-elf if you will ).

Both of these characters are actually Nords. :o The first one is less elf-looking and the second one is one that I planned out to play as half Dunmer and half Nord.

I'd also suggest these mods if you want beautiful characters.

And, of course, you'll want ECE and the Ran's enhancer.

Of course, these aren't the only mods that will get you beautiful characters. It's just what I've found to work through trial and error and sorting stuff that I liked and didn't like. Your mileage may vary. But these will work fine, I can be sure of that much. Here's a Nord with those mods, Venus body and FSC Univision textures.

there are far better textures as "Fair Skin Complexion" which are available for all body types, not only for UNP.

a few examples.

Yeah SG is the defacto easy start texture set, can't go wrong with it in my experience. And for elves there really is no serious alternative to Ethereal Elven Overhaul, it's just the best and most thorough overhaul of elves that there is, nothing else comes close imo. You can run these two in a perfect combination together, along with Race Menu, and the Custom Races mod is a very easy way to get to  mod your character without it screwing up all the other races and npcs in the game.

As to how you go about implementing these in your game, you can't do better than to follow the instructions the authors give.  Happy experimenting.

I like your Nord Gal...where is that Hair from?

this hair belong to the SG Hair Pack 268. Googling.

He was here at LL for a while, he left because people were using his work without permission.

I beginning to think he closed down for good.

the SG Hair Pack by Hello Santa is the best for skyrim. it must not be uploaded here on LL, because copyright infringement.

edit: I have all the hair mods for skyrim.

sg220 hair pack, the 4share is 0131pack. Hmm I may not have the right file...deleting the link to be safe.

There were different packs out there. It started at 100 I believe, then 150, then 220, then 268 before it was all taken down. I guess some of the hairs were ported over from Sims and there were copyright issues so it had to be taken down. But there are copies floating around the 'net. Once something is on the 'net it's ALWAYS on the 'net.

Look up all the skin textures you're considering on the Nexus and check out that image tab! A picture's worth a thousand words, after all. In my experience, different skin textures will give you very different results, so it doesn't hurt to give them all a try. Real Girls is my personal favorite - it's impeccably detailed, but it can be difficult to work with. SG Textures Renewal, on the other hand, is very easy to make a pretty character with, but I personally dislike it because it makes characters a little too airbrushed and artificial in my opinion. Mature Skin is a nice compromise; same general style as SG, but a little more rough and realistic. There's tons more out there, so check out as many as you can! :)

Textures don't generally have plugins or anything like that. So you just install them and they take effect.

Be wary, though, if you're manually installing or using Nexus Mod Manager. They will overwrite other texture files if you let them. So don't just tell the computer to overwrite everything, be sure to know what all is being overwritten. Even stuff like Pretty Lips, No More Ugly Bronze Shine, and so on can be overwritten by new skin textures.

If you're using Mod Organizer you won't get any overwrites. You just order the textures in the left pane in a manner that creates the 'virtual' overwrite that you want (like skin first, then Pretty Lips, then No More Bronze Shine, etc.).

OK, I downloaded the SG textures renewal, and I see no sliders or clicks to work with it. Is it automatic? Do I have to have more than one texture?

If I delete SG and upload mature will it auto-change for the toon, or do I need to showracemenu to change it?

as "gvman3670" already said, a texture modification is easy to do.

I do everything manually. Here, in this case, the exact path the installation.

Data \ textures \ actors \ character \ female \ to go there install all .dds files.

these files are very important:

Body

femalebody_1.dds

femalebody_1_msn.dds

femalebody_1_s.dds

femalebody_1_sk.dds

Hands

femalehands_1.dds

femalehands_1_msn.dds

femalehands_1_s.dds

femalehands_1_sk.dds

Face

femalehead.dds

femalehead_msn.dds

femalehead_s.dds

femalehead_sk.dds

also it is very important that femalebody_1.dds, femalehands_1.dds, femalehead.dds come from a mod, otherwise the created texture error (neck seam , hand seam)

You can just download and go, or at least as close as possible, if you use Mod Organizer. There IS a reason all the cool kids use it. :P

With MO you can just load 1000 mods into without once paying attention to the order they're downloaded in. After they're loaded you just drag 'em and drop 'em into an order that gives you the virtul overwrites you desire and that's it. So, for example, If I wanted my FSC textures to overwrite Pretty Lips I would just place FSC below it in the list, and vice versa. It's so simple that I can't fathom the alternative anymore.

In your case (NMM?), you just need to install the texture, overwrite everything, then install Eyes of Beauty (or Brows, Pretty Lips, whatever), allow the overwrites, then do No More Bronze Shine dead last after everthing else (allowing it to overwrite).

This is what I'm afraid of. Going into the program and doing IT techie stuff.

I braved it for the Finis for users deal.  I do it here as well. Dang, thousands of mods and you can't just download and go

these two mods that I post now, you copy in your texture folder.

these two are then never overwritten, it is for the body, hands and face, there are all "_s.dds \ _sk.dds" files!

once "no more bronze effect and once no gloss". unless you want to gloss.
