How can I select seperate a part of a mesh in NifSkope?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

There is a custom robe .nif mesh.

All of the parts are merged.

Using GIMP, Alpha Channel, and transparency effect might solve the problem.

The problem is something like this:

Assume that the robe and the panties use the same robe textures, same spot/area.

Panties

When I select the panties, the lines of the panties stretches. So, I can't move it.

My goal is to select it separately and move it to an unused spot with out damaging the original robe mesh.

After saving it, I can use GIMP, Alpha Channel with transparency Effect at that spot that I moved the panties to.

If you can help me anyway, I'll appreciate it.

You can use Outfit Studio to fix this.  Either remove the offending vertices from the mesh, or move the UVs to somewhere safe to make transparent.

Alternately, you could make a separate texture with the desired area transparent and make sure the selected mesh uses only that texture.

But, how to "remove the offending vertices from the mesh" in NifSkope?

I don't know how to do that. I need a tutorial.

I don't know how to move the UVs.

You can seperate the nodes with blender or generate new UV-Maps. You can do the same with bodyslide but it is much harder.

Using Blender is very long shot, but it's effective.

Outfit Studio's Masking tool, reverse mask, then delete the meshes doesn't work all the time. It can cause problem(s).

I solved it...

Right Click on it.

Texture => Edit UV

Zoom in by using wheel to view it closely.

Click on the area/spot.

Just a dot would be selected.

Click right.

Be careful.

You have to see "hand" as mouse marker, not plus sign .

From the Menu, select "Select Connected". So, it'll select all of the part that you (I...) want.

After selecting it, you can move it to a blank, unused area.

After that, if you want, you can resize to half, 0.50 for example.

You can change its angle, etc...

Then save it.

Then, open GIMP.

Open that .nif file's texture.

In the Layer Tab, go to "Transparency", and be sure that "Alpha Channel" has been already added.

Right now, you can select and delete the area(s) that you moved unnecessary part(s) of the mesh.

You need to create NiAlphaProperty in NifSkope.

Right Click on BSTriShape

Node

Attach Property

Select "NiAlphaProperty"

After creating it, click on the flag at "Flags" parts.

Click on "Enable Blending". So, you can see transparency immediately.

"Alpha Test Threshold" can be 128, but you can 16 also.

"Flags" number is 4845. It's 4844 sometimes. I don't know the difference between them.

So, after you deleted the unwanted area(s) from the texture, The deleted areas look blank,

Merge the image. Export the image as .dds.

And, use this file as your default .dds file.

Making an .dds file a semi-transparent is a different story.

4845 if it is expected to be shown with other transparent/translucent objects near it.  (Think translucent skirt over translucent underwear)

4844 is usually if it is a mix of opaque and transparent materials that will be shown without layering.  (Think lace hem on a shirt cuff)
