help with modding, I don't understand mods

Recommended Posts

Hello, this is not my first time with mods but I still have a lot of problems. I can't understand how mods work especially on the body. What is CBBE? What is 3BBB? For many years I have had a problem with modding Fallout 4 or Skyrim.
I recently downloaded Fallout 4 Collections, at first I was happy but after a while I was disappointed. Ok, I managed to implement a complete body adjustment as I want, big ass, big tits, face ok. I used these mods:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/60977

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42803

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7718?

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/39006

Anyway, I installed this for example:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16754

And stilla body putting on this outfit practically goes back to Vanilla and not as I set it, why? Do I have to adjust the outfit to my needs in BodySlide? Yesterday I looked and there are many presets that I don't want to use because I want one that I set in the game, is it even possible? Same with boobs and ass physics? Does there have to be a specific mod or will any one fit everything? I'm lost with the choice of mods and I don't know what I really need and how to use it.

When I start modding, is it a good idea to use Collections at all? Maybe I should install one mod at a time to understand how they work?

I use Vortex because I don't want to install everything manually or I'd make even more mistakes.

I forgot to mention that English is not my native language so this is another obstacle for me

CBBE is a type of body mod. 3BBB are additional bones to animate stuff, particularly the breasts.

You need to use Bodyslide to build any outfit/body set you want, that's how you make them fit your preset. As long as the mod has support for BS and the body type you use you'll be fine.

That'd be revolutionary. In all seriousness, the good thing about this approach is that as you get familiar with more and more mods you'll find it easier to understand and manage them. All you need is check the description, maybe check the file types and folders involved in each mod and do a bit of trial and error.

When you go to download an armor/clothing mod it should say somewhere in the description if it's for CBBE or another body type.

If it's for CBBE and you are using CBBE, you're good.

Once the mod is installed and enabled you open Bodyslide, select the sets added by your new armor/clothing mod, verify the preset you use is also selected and you build everything.

You don't need to set any sliders. That's what presets and bodyslide outfit sets are for.

we don't understand each other and it's hard for me to explain in english, I gave you what mods I have installed, just in the character creator I added a full body modeling, I made a big ass and tits and when I installed this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16754 and put on this outfit it completely changed the size of the body instead of adapting up to my standards

Here's a video explaining how CBBE and Bodyslide works and how to use them. It's a very good video and still valid despite being 6 years old. Just don't use the same mod manager Gopher used, there are newer and better alternatives to now outdated NMM these days.

You can make your own body on CBBE Body or CBBE Body Physics, and save it as a preset. When you choose a preset, there should be an option of “save as” next to it. You then name it and check what the preset can build.

hope this helps!

I already understood more or less what I like modding more and more

1) If you haven't already got it, get Mod Organizer 2 (MO2) and learn how to use it.  It just makes modding life in these games so much easier because (once you learn how to use it properly), you can have various "profiles" with completely different types of mods in them, which means you can have for example a simple set of mods that you learn and experiment with, and then apply what you're learned to a more complicated profile that has all the mods you want.  The other thing you can do with profiles is experiment with mods in one, while another is stable and you can keep playing the game without being stuck in modding hell.

2) Understand that clothes and body aren't like in real life (where you put clothes on a body and they shape themselves around the body).  With mods, the shape is an abstraction that can be applied to either the body or clothes, outfits, etc., or both, and in order to get the same shape with outfits as the naked body has, the clothes have to have that abstract shape specially applied to them, the same as it's applied to the body, otherwise the body has abstract shape A (the one you like) and the clothes will have abstract shape B (say, vanilla, or some other body shape).

3) Bodyslide enables you to alter the outfits, or even a whole set of outfits, it's what lets you apply the same abstract shape to outfits as the body that you like has.  But you have to learn to use it (for example, you have to make a preset out of the body shape you like, so that the abstract shape your preset has can be applied to outfits).

There's no shortcut unfortunately, with modding you just have to grit your teeth and learn how to use the main tools.  The good news is that it doesn't take more than a few days playing around, starting with simple things, and learning how to do what it is you want to do.  But you do have to go through a bit of a learning process.
