Wrye bash issue

Not sure where else to ask this since every time I look for help on other forums it takes damn near never to get an answer,

So my wrye bash is acting weird,  and by that i mean I can't manually sort and organize the mods any more.  In other words I can't click and drag the plugins.  Any clue as to what the issue is?  It happened earlier tonight after I installed better cities and did a CBash patch...bash.  I've uninstalled and re-installed both oblivion and wrye bash,  but it just doesn't seem to want to cooperate.

had this problem too. i fixed this with running in admin mode (stupid folder protection)

Edit:  Looks like that didn't work :/   Any other ideas folks?  I suppose I could sort it through OBMM then bash but it's gonna get tedious rather quickly.

Maybe you have "lock times" turned on...

if you get the message "Auto ordered files cannot be manually moved"

That's most probably the case here, 'Lock times' active. Maybe it's on by default.

 

To switch off this option, simply right-click on the 'Files' header bar at the top in the 'Mods' tab and uncheck this option in the middle of the appearing context menu. After making the desired changes to the load order it's best to switch this option back on.

 

After external changes to mods WB will put that plugin back to its original place thanks to this option, by restoring the timestamp it had before the change. Examples are cleaning with 'TES4Edit'. Or editing an esp in the CS.

Or after watching BOSS completely destroy a perfectly functioning load order. Or running OBMM...

That's why I don't use BOSS

I extract all the juice out of the Balo Group functionality... sadly only available up to v 291.1 I think

They removed it in later versions and earned my everlasting hatred for it in the process

 

It works perfectly with lock times on and resets everything just the way you like it

 

The only work one has to do is set the groups properly, put everything in exactly the group where you wanted, lock times on and never worry again about load order, no BOSS, no OBMM

Every new mod installed doesn't get last it gets to "NONE" group where you can leave it there or put it somewhere else

Yeah. Two times I gave BOSS a chance. On both occasions things broke. Since then I prefer not to give it any more tries.

Took some time to fix the issues it caused and I had to find workarounds to restore functionality to a few mods.

 

One major problem is the mass of customized mods I have installed. Merged mods, esps I made myself - they all aren't recognized by BOSS.

For a total of almost fifty esps the software has no clue whatsoever where to put them!

I have said it many times but it bears repeating at least once more,  BOSS should only be run after you do a clean install and install all your base mods (non lovers stuff).  Once that is done you really should stick to hand sorting from that point on.  Doing otherwise risks breaking or making a mess of things as folks have detailed above.

That's what I know now after finding out the hard way. The funny thing is - it happened again. After the first time I really should have let it go, but no!

Let's run this tool again and muck up a working install for a second time, because troubleshooting is such an interesting puzzle!

Playing mod Sherlock Holmes instead of the game itself is a lot of fun.

But every group can be entirely customized, you can add extensions to groups in positive and negative numbers, name them as whatever you like and place them in whatever order you like

 

A while ago I was having issues with some mods, after re installing some stuff some issues went away... I hope they don't come back again cause I never found the real problem

Some trouble with Dwemer Skyship driving animations and some messed up shadow issues... the shadow issues seemed to be related to installing Unnecessary Violence II, then HUD Status Bars, then shadows broke, re installing UVII over itself fixes the thing... the weirdest part, is that HUD Status Bars doesnt change any UV ini settings, overwrite anything... it just happens because  I installed one and then the other... It's probably the most fucked up issue I've ever seen... but at least I got a way to solve it...

 

Anyway I mention this because I posted it some time ago... and nobody seemed to care... But I put in there my load order cause I thought that was a place to look for errors...

 

Have a look, you can see what you can do with Balo groups... it undergoes some changes every time but the basic structure remains the same... I almost never got load order issues and If I do they're very easy to identify and solve

BTW in that structure, If I got Lovers, those would have to be either before or after where I put "Race" groups

I had seen that post of yours, but I was clueless what could have cause the weird shadow issue. Seems you are playing with skin texturing active, something I'm not used to anymore for years now.

 

This mod grouping is indeed what I have been doing more or less instinctively ever since I started using Bash. That way it's much easier to find several plugins at once for mass-deactivation. Pose mods for example. I only have five of them active at a time and swap them out with other pose mods after a while. At a single glance into the 'Groups' column they can be found, unchecked and all moved to the 'Hidden' directory at once. Thanks to 'Lock times' active the 'fresh' pose mods I unhide are then placed in the exact spot the previous pose mods were occupying.

 

So this is called a 'Balo' group. I was only unfamilar with the term but love using this technique.

And they really removed this function in later versions?!
