Modder Templates and Resources for community translations

 

Hello-hello!

 

I made this support topic for community translations for the CinErotique Porn TV mod. If you're interested making a translation for the mod, you can find all the resources needed to do so.
 

How to translate:

1. Download the English Language reference file from below (available formats: package, xml, stbl)
2. Open the package file in Sims4Studio (or your preferred alternative like the TS4 Translator or the DP STBL Editor)
3. Change the language of the String Table in the Locale droplist.
4. Edit & Translate the lines in the String Table.
5. Save your work.
6. Post your file on Loverslab under the Translations section.
   Don't forget to remind users that the translation package has to be in the same folder where the CinErotique mod is!

 MAKING TRANSLATIONS MORE FUTURE PROOF

 

Okay, so we all know that outdated translations could result in blank texts when a new mod version comes out that includes new additions to the string tables that hasn't been translated yet. That's just how stuff works. Sure, fancy mods like WickedWhims has all sorts of black magic level python code in place to remedy this issue, but let's be frank, most other more basic mods have no such failsafe built into them (like CinErotique for example ?)
This is in general not a big problem that affects the CE translating community at the moment, as I found that you guys are usually very quick with updating your translations. So good job on that, give yourself a pat on the back.

 

BUT!... What if I tell you that there's a way that you can make your translation more future proof against blank texts.

 

Note: I will use JO4K's CinErotique_LP_SPANISH-JO4K.package spanish translation as an example, simply because that's the latest new addition. I also purposefully removed lines from it for testing purposes.

 

 

1.) Reversing the load order:

The advice you see in all translators topic (this topic included, lol) is to put a ! or 1_ or A_ in front of the translation package's file name, or just in general make sure that it's filename is alphabetically comes before the mod's name, so it gets loaded before the mod does... while it's counterintuitive, if we want to future proof our translation, this should be actually done the other way.

So in our example, we change the filename from CinErotique_LP_SPANISH-JO4K.package to [JO4K]_CinErotique_LP_SPA-ES.package .
It's prefered to use [ (square bracket) at the start, as it naturally comes after the alphabetical characters in the standard ASCII table, so by standard PC load order rules, now it should properly load after PECO_MOD_CinErotique.package does.

 

 

2.) Changing the instance number:

Here comes the second change that needs to be done. The string table in the translation package needs to get a new instance number as well, otherwise it simply will not work, (you know, coz' load order and stuff).

Now this is easy to remedy, we can just give a new instance number to our string table by using Sims4Studio (or the editor of your choice).

Just change the last digit of the ??CD947F9034E862 instance number from 2 to something else, like 1,4,7, whatever. It doesn't matter to what, just make it different from the original. Then save the whole thing.

 

3.) Finale:

Now that we have our modified translation package, let's try it out ingame.

 

As I said before. I purposely removed some lines from the spanish translation for testing purposes, and after I made the changes mentioned above to it, lo and behold, the missing strings still show up in english instead of being blank.

 

 

Closing thoughts:

I don't want to tell any of you how to do/publish your translations, it's all up to you. Either way I'm incredibly grateful for you that you took the time to make and maintain the translation(s) in the first place.
I just wanted to share my findings with you, so you can make a better informed decision in the future if you choose to do so.

Can't say when it'll be but hopefully soonish enough.

Dutch translation right here: 

This was pretty easy to do actually, I used sims 4 translator and I've never modded for sims 4 before.

I used google translate at first and then changed some strings so they are more in line with the dutch sentence structure the game has for their balloons.

 

I will see if I can update the file name so it's future proof, like explained above here. You might want to change the body of the opening post so it has the correct file name template peco, because I totally missed it

Heads up to translators regarding mod version 6.2f (2023-MAR-19)

So, yeah, I made an oopsie...
I just realized that I've accidentally included a string table with v6.2f (2023-MAR-19) that was actually intended for a future mod version that I'm working on. So if you see new lines, that's the reason for it.
But those lines are actually not in use in v6.2f, so you don't need to update your translation, as the relevant parts have not changed since v6.2d.
