So, for whatever reason Skyrim decided to update AGAIN and by doing so, it outdated some mods that I have got installed. But by doing that, it literally threw off masterfiles and what not from AE/SE versions.

So... My Skyrim no longer runs. I have run into a wall and unfortunately I need to reinstall Skyrim. With that being said, I unfortunately Couldn't finish this series but I DO intend to start a new series once  I get my mods back up and running.

I apologize once again for this random Roadblock in the series, but I'll try to put out a new Blog ASAP.

Here was the "to be" for the 4th chapter that I had ALREADY started working on when Skyrim got royally anally probed....

I'm going to use what I learned here to make a new Novel ASAP guys, I'll be back after Christmas.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that! Have you tried doing the procedures to stop Skyrim from ever updating until you're ready? Setting the Steam app manifest file to read-only -- I can provide more details if you're not familiar with it.

You know you can downgrade your Skyrim again, right? https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/18bh43k/if_you_accidentally_updated_your_skyrim_here_is/

I recommend using the manual way via the steam console, the downgrader on the Nexus does not seem to work well (might have improved by now).
After that set Steam to only update on gamestart and never ever start via Steam. (If you are using the CK, do the same for that.)

I also recommend taking regular backups of your game folders (and everything else you care about). No, really, do it. My credo in this regard: "No backup, no compassion." (Goes without saying that after the backup, you should disconnect the backup drive, so in case of a power surge or a trojan the backup does not get killed together with the main system.)

1. what guy above said

2. always try to run Skyrim in offline mode

3. set in steam to "only update when I run game" but never run actual skyrim.exe just skse

4. Google "appmanifest for Skyrim/SSE" ...its a file someone in folders but varies depending on how you installed...SSEs is called "appmanifest_489830.acf" (mine was on some drive letter/Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps or something like that...whatever and wherever your file is...make it read only in windows...this seems to be the biggest change that will prevent even teh sneakiest Steam updates

5.profit, and say FU to bethesda trying to update this ass old game and breaking still when the only people who care about it still are the ones modding it w/ 300+ mods...many of them probably not even actually playing it just toying w/ aesthetics and doing screen archery

I've actually tried the manual downgrade. It was the first thing I tried. It would launch the game but immediately still crash it. I went rooting for the mod that is causing it. Even as far as disabling one by one. It never got resolved so I figured I'll just re-download since it'll be faster. The pain is just getting my gameplay mods. The screenshot and graphic mods will be easy.

I didn't even know you could set it in Steam but I'm sure you can find it. Thank you!

I've learned that Steam can do that. I've always played it offline to prevent it from updating. Didn't know the game can update on launch. That's something I'll do! Thanks

in my experience after downgrading my skyrim any mod that changes something in the fishing update will cause a crash.

It's too bad you couldn't get the downgrader working. I hope you are able to find a solution.

I know! I had so much planned for the series but the inconsistency would just throw the readers off. So I just tanked it.

I'll start a new series as soon as I get it working. Stay tuned ?

I've decided to stick with AE this time around. Maybe it'll be worth the "upgrade" ?‍♂️

Updates? Mods breaking?... What are you talking about?

Oh, that's right, I play Skyrim LE, that's why I'm not getting any of these issues caused by Bethesda's instance on updating Skyrim AE/SE, so they can sell stuff to people.

(I'm not trying to sound.. condescending or anything, I'm just saying that there are reasons I never updated.)

the only problem with LE is that the script is outdated so the mods that use AE DLL files likely wont have an LE version (which some are the mods i use for this blog). But i definently know what youre saying. like... todd howard leave this 11 year old game alone. go update starfield. nobody wants these creation club bs. lmao
