Black Screen Upon New Game

[Darkening Demise]

I redownloaded the game, deleted the SPECIAL videos and intro, have the latest version of F4SE the game and all mods.

Not sure which file I'm supposed to look at in the appdata folder. So here's a list of files that I'm guessing is the load order. I found this in a plugins text file.

The game used to run, even with mods. Not sure if I did something wrong with the mods this time or something else is wrong. I've tried disabling certain mods I felt were causing this but nothing works. Game launches fine, but upon starting a new game the loading happens then I get a black screen. I can only open the console with ` key and have to alt+f4 to close the game.

Did you try testing the load with FO4Edit? Whenever I have crash problems and potential mod conflicts, the first thing I do is run it through FO4Edit so it can tell me if there's a conflict or something missing.

If that doesn't work, the second thing I do is validate cache in Steam.

 

If that doesn't work I delete the *.ini files for the game and let it create new ones (though that requires re-configuration of the graphics and stuff).

I have the same problem. The most I can offer is a work around. If you have an old save, load that then exit to main menu, and start new game.

 

I think the problem comes from UI mods that either weren't updated to the current version of the game, or they didn't update them right.

The only reason I say this is because I had the problem before when I started playing again. Uninstalled everything that had something to do with the UI (EX: Looks Menu, Def Hud,or Pleasant Hud) and I could then start a new game without the work around from above.

 

Hope this helps at least a little.

 

Should add that the work around might take one or two tries, usually works on the first try though.

If you need a save deactivate all your mods even dlc , and try to get a save that way.

Can confirm that loading an old save and then proceeding to start a new game should work for you.

I just wanted to add that there are tons of saved games on Nexus mods to obtain, which are normally facial presets and personal settlements... if you have no old saved games.
