Paid steam mods are no more...

So Valve and Bethesda backpedaled on the whole paid mod fiasco. That great news that reflects well on both companies, however just a quick poll would have spared them the backlash. Gabe reported on reddit that while the paid mods generated $10k in revenue over 2-3 days, the costs of dealing with the fallout cost them over $1 million.

 

 

What I am really curious is what will modders do. I am particularly thinking of SkyUI. In their defense, they did leave 4.1 freely available on the Nexus. And they did promise that the API was not going to change, maintaining backwards compatibility of future revisions and 4.1. But their 5.0 version, that took about a year to arrive was to be a paid exclusive.

 

Are they going to upload it to the Nexus now that so many users on that site voiced their... displeasure?

 

Anyway, we'll see...
