00ptic Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I decided to start a new game from a new installation, but during the opening scene, my FPS drops considerably. From starting the game up until the 'SKYRIM' overlay fades away completely, I have about 110+ FPS and everything seems properly rendered, with no detectable input lag. After that, however, it drops to <10 FPS and it becomes difficult to look around. I have no mods or ENB active yet.
Spyder Arachnid Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 If you have no mods and no enb whatsoever installed, just the straight basic Skyrim game, then it's your ini settings. You have your graphics set higher than your system can handle. Lower your graphic setting. Cause you said you have no mods and no enb, so that means you are just running the basic Skyrim install. So the only other solution is your graphics are higher than your system can handle. Either that, or you have too much programs running in the background while you are trying to play. One or the other.
00ptic Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 I could run the game on Ultra in populated cities with Insomnia ENB without much trouble before (It's on Medium or Low now, I forget), so I thought it was some problems with the ini files, but I do not see anything out of order there. I have no idea what could be causing this.
D_ManXX2 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 or running the free DLC from skyrim. i had this highress DLC in my system but never even play with it. problem is when ever i go to steam it will download it all again. is there a way to get rid of the highress dlc ?? Textures from vanilla skyrim is not very well optimized so you will always get some form of lag. Does not have to be ini, open the skyrim loader and go to options change textures to high. from what i remember ultra is not very good in skyrim. you will be better off in high textures anyway. I have about 110+ FPS 1 advice though you may want to lower this a bit. skyrim engine has problems playing right with any FPS higher then 60 FPS try to turn on vsync to force the game to play at lower FPS maybe then you won't see any lag happening. Maybe that is what you are experiencing the game trouble to stick to 110 FPS and you will see huge drop the moment you start moving around it then needs to generate all of LOD around your player character.

Guest Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I could run the game on Ultra in populated cities with Insomnia ENB without much trouble before (It's on Medium or Low now, I forget), so I thought it was some problems with the ini files, but I do not see anything out of order there. I have no idea what could be causing this. I've had this happen with a new install before. I resolved it by deleting the renderer and both ini files and restarting the launcher so it does it's detection thing and recreates them. I wonder if sometimes there's an issue with direct x during that initial setup and it causes these files to mess up. Double check that you have a skyrim_default.ini file in the root folder too I guess, since the game must use that when it first launches. If all else fails, and assuming you're not getting anything weird like high temps or suspicious processes galloping off with all your CPU time, consider reinstalling your drivers, or if you've updated recently, roll them back. All that good stuff.
