FPS drop when playing as a vampire

I hope this is just something simple that I've overlooked. I've been trying to troubleshoot this problem for the past 3-4 months and I'm at my wits end with it. I've even gone through about five different play thrus, with different configurations including vanilla Skyrim, Requiem and SkyRe and the end is always the same. By the time my character makes it to about levels 40-70 (my characters develop slowly), the FPS has gradually dropped into the 30s and 40s. It's really bad when switching to third person view when it drops into the lower 20s and upper teens. This ONLY happens when my character is a vampire. The FPS of my non-vampire characters is 60 and rarely drops below 53.

I use Mod Organizer and I've checked the Data tab and noted the Vampiric Thirst (I LOVE this mod.) files overwrite the vampire files that Dawnguard and the Unofficial Dawnguard patch includes. I also have Vampiric Thrist at a higher priority in the left pane than anything that would conflict with it. I've also used INI with minimal settings, EWI's INIs and different settings in between and it doesn't matter. The FPS issue persists. I've also tried this with ENB and without. The end result is the same.

One thing I haven't tried, is to start a play thru and add one mod at a time. I just haven't had the time to do that yet. And I'm really not sure that would actually locate the problem, or if it would only prolong the process.

Skyrim is fully updated through Steam, and I have the Dragonborn, Dawnguard, and Hearthfire DLCs. The Unofficial patches are also installed and up-to-date.

I use the XPSME skeleton and FNIS is 5.1.1. There haven't been any animation issues that I've noticed.

Also, the race compatibility includes the Vampiric Thirst version. Oh, and I do not upack the BSAs. Should I?

I enjoy playing Skyrim as a Succubus or some other character type. But I really, really miss my vampire character. So if anyone has any ideas, or suggestions on how I can fix this, you have my thanks. :D

Download, install, and run TES5Edit it may help solve some "unseen" minor conflicts between skyrim, dawnguard and the Vampiric Thirst Mod along with other things that might be conflicting, it may help and is a useful tool to have at your disposal

I have TES5Edit, but that's one that I haven't taken much time to learn. Guess I should take time.

HDT Log?

At the risk of sounding stupid, where is the HDT log located? I tried to search for a mention of it over in the HDT forum, but I got an error message saying I couldn't search for the word log even when I ran the search in quotes like "hdt log."

Aha! Thanks.

This is all it has.

Just a long shot, before delving into the log stuff like the others.

I use Vampiric Thirst as well and tried predator vision out some time ago, those two don't like each other.

Seeing as your problem is vampire related i'd suggest fiddling around with that.

I had the exact same symptoms.

Hmm. That makes sense. I hadn't really thought about it, but now that you mention it.  I also recall having to workaround with Predator Vision and ENB at one time to get them to work together. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Edit to add: I just tried it with a clean save without PV and cleaned it with the Save Tool, but no change. I sort of figured that play through was fried. When I make another character, I'll leave PV out and see how it does.

  • 1 month later...

Thought I should update this.

I just completed a play through as a vampire. Yaaaa!!! Played through with vanilla Skyrim, meaning no Requiem or SkyRe, and used Vampiric Thirst *without* Predator Vision.

Thank you, Jormungandr, for your suggestion. It worked! :D
