Kashked Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 My thought for this thread is this... basically it is the opposite of the "Is there a mod that..."-thread, so this thread is for tips you want to share about the mods that you want to "advertise", hidden gems and mods that you feel are essential alike. My tips are these... If I was limited to only ONE mod, this is the one I would choose... Realistic Battle and Dynamic Combat! http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34921 This makes the combat much more faster paced and deadly, a shot to the head is a killshot to most normal humans, even with a 9mm gun and low skill in guns. Makes the game easier in one way, harder in another. As long as you are "beforehand" (don't know a better english translation, it is a military term for being the one who has the initiative in the firefight, and basically, shoots first and has surprise on his side) combat gets easier, however, when you are ambushed the roles are reversed and you are quite likely to die in the first volley. [rant]I simply CANNOT play withouth this mod. Standing at 2 meters distance and pumping half a mag of 9mm into someomes head is not something that should be survived, just because the person shooting dosn't have a lot of experience with guns...[/rant] While on the theme of realism I want to reccomend Realistic Carryweight mod: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35780 YES, it is a in the ass, gameplaywise. However I wouldn't play withouth it. I'm a realism junkie I guess, so be warned, it is not for everyone... Another mod, or rather, collection of mods I like is Puce Moose Tweak and Balance Center: http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35015 It's highly modular and tweaks various aspects of the game. I use most of the mods. To make the Mojave a little more decorated I use two mods, Yams Pinup Parade ( http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=43341 ) for the non-nude stuff with various 50's themed posters, and then Lurker101'ss Billboard and Posters pack ( http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38027 ) to spice it up a little extra. These two works great togheter. If you only use Lurker's pack it feels a bit over the top, but Yam's pack balances it up, giving a more "natural" feel to the decorations. Spicing up the game even more is Rapscallions Sexxxy Card Revamp ( http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=43630 ), which gives you a reason to play Caravan...:D Much more quality than any other card revamps. The Gunrunners Arsenal Integration mod is a MUST if you have GRA, as it removes the annoying tags for the new equipment: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=44587 A small but effective realism mod is Increased Weapon Jamming ( http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=45003 ) which adds weapon jamming to the firing of weapons. This happens both to you and your enemies. 200 year old weapons SHOULD jam IMHO. Well kept weapons CAN function for decades, I have seen several examples of weapons that has been in storage since the 60's-70's that work without a hitch, but now we talk centuries, and likely most guns will not have been kept oiled and stored properly during that time...
Nonsense667 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 First off, this thread is a great idea! If you want a little change up in the opening cut scene, you can download a modified version that shows a little more at the Nexus. http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=42060 Also: hippen gems Yo dawg, dem mods be totally hippen.
Nonsense667 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Don't know why this thread didn't get more post, it would be a great way for others to discover mods they never new existed. I'll make a few more recommendations eh? 1: More Shells It increases the persistence of shells on the ground, and the number that is allowed. The Book of Earache covers this, but for those who only want this feature in particular, well, here you go! 2: Mr Doctor House If you know the show, this should give you a laugh or two. 3: FNV - PCIDLES Simply adds a few idles that your character will use occasionally, a nice small touch. 4: Manual Reload This so much. This mod actually makes having a backup pistol a possibility, removing the unstoppable automatic reload when you run out. It keeps track of ammo spent, so when you switch back to a weapon it is not magically loaded again. Huge recommendation. (Doesn't work if magazine has been modified.) 5: I'm just going to agree with Kashked and recommend Increased Weapon Jamming I love it because it can stop the jamming immediately on reloading, and adds jamming when you fire. Much better! 6: Killing Karma Rewards Removed Stops you from becoming a saint just because you defend yourself from raiders. Another good, simple fix. 7: Several V.A.T.S. Mods. As I like to use vats as a "bad-ass button." Need to be a bad-ass? Press the button. 7a: Vats Increased Accuracy Does what it says on the tin. Comes in two flavors. Now you can actually hit shit. 7b: NV Slowmo Bullet Flyby in Vats Makes fatal head shots do the bullet flyby camera shot. Very bad-ass. 7c: Adjusted Damage Taken in VATS You can actually use this to increase or decrease vats damage. I personally use the 10% damage esp. For those times when you want to unleash a flurry of shots with nukes raining down upon you, and then be able to walk away. Realistic? Fuck no. Bad-ass? Fuck yeah! 8: Fallout New Vegas Redesigned 2 This mod is amazing. The goal of Fallout New Vegas Redesigned 2 is to improve upon realism, lore and character design for each of the characters in Fallout New Vegas. This mod will redesign NPCs in Fallout New Vegas to fix skin issues, face proportions, personality mismatches, etc. in an attempt to make each character fit better with the the lore of Fallout New Vegas. If a character was intended to be conniving, depraved, ruthless, ugly, beautiful, innocuous, jaded, happy, angry, sad, frightened, young, old, middle-aged, impulsive, hungry...I made changes to reflect that. Subtle changes were made in anatomy, proportions, and textures to reinforce each design. As time goes on, I will change the designs and the world based upon the feedback of the community. Keep in mind that not all images of character changes have been displayed. The world of Fallout is a dark and gritty world. It's not all about anime eyes, fancy hairs, perfect skin and supermodels. and I wanted to create the world Interplay and Tim Cain intended with the release of Fallout in 1997. [video=youtube] Also: hidden gems I see you fixed it. However I refuse to alter my previous post.
Dmouse52 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 if you're playing fallout3 then i've got to say fallout classic weapons. unlike in NV, FO3 weapons are ALL replaced from the mod so you get a colt 10mm handgun from amata. For me it makes all the shoot outs and weapon recovery a whole lot more exciting and if you like your AK 47's then you are in for a real treat. American and other nationality guns are also pretty damn fine
astymma Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 For New Vegas, if you enjoy exploration, try the following mods that allow you to search out and find collectibles or involve collection as a quest: AWOP (the DJ's song discs) Bobblehunt lots of bobbleheads to find Love Shacks mod encourages exploration with a reward of 4 chicks and a love nest... how can that be bad? Unique Items and Collectibles tons, and I mean tons, of collectibles to find and one of my favorites: Action For Men and no, it isn't what it sounds like... it's period (50's,60's) magazines with men doing manly things (like battling a giant otter...seriously, a giant otter) and hot chicks in skimpy clothing in peril And, don't forget: SexoutStore here at LoversLab which has a book hunt for Shakespeare's works for a discount at the store and Wasteland Explorer An empty quest that allows you to freely roam the wasteland without a quest marker flashing and no quest reminder popups. Feel free to add more to this list... these I've played and they are amusing...
Kashked Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Also: hidden gems I see you fixed it. However I refuse to alter my previous post. I'm sure I don't know what you are talking about, my spelling is always flawless.
