Regular Freezing

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I am back again with yet another issue, ofcourse... I really hope my threads are helping more then just myself, because otherwise I feel bad, I mean it seems like every other week I am making one of these threads, thanks to this awesome community I find a solution though! ;)

Okay, so my current issue revolves around typical freezing. No CTD just freezing, but what's weird is my game will freeze, and the music and ambient sounds will continue to play. I sat their for 6 minutes one time just listening to the sountrack playing yet no movement on screen. It's very weird, also, there are no clear patterns for the freezing. It will happen in battle almost every time now, but sometimes it will even freeze while just randomly exploring.

I just did a fresh install of Skyrim last week and have been carefully adding mods in since, the first freeze came after I activated DAT GRASS, so instinctively I disabled that, but still got the freezing, so I guess it really isnt that mod... Last install this same exact thing was happening too, which is why I did a fresh install, I figured it was something to do with scripts, so on this install I was very careful about which mods I added, I stopped myself from adding many different script based mods in an effort to prevent CTDs, obviously that didn't due much use.

One last thing I notice about the freezing, is that when it freezes, on my task manager Skyrim and my ENB module in the task manager go down to 0% CPU usage, typically they are on 10% - 15% while playing, maybe this has something to do with the CTDs?

As a constant fighter of CTD's and freezes I can say from analyzing your load order that you're running an inordinate amount of mods that are editing various world cells and leveled lists pretty heavily.

The more of these you stack on top of each other the chance of failure at some level in the process becomes exponentially higher, resulting in much greater instability.

Simplest thing I can suggest is to cut back on mods that edit cells as heavily as possible. Once you've done that, managing your memory overhead is actually a very simple battle of deciding what overrides really are necessary and which are not. But mods that edit cells in general are always dangerous and having multiple cell and leveled list editing mods is a guaranteed trip to crash/lock up.

Also given the fact that you're running such a large amount of high resolution replacers I'm going to assume you're using Sky2K and AMidianborn in there too which neither of them show up in the plugin list but on top of the huge amount of cell and leveled list editing going on there, you're also pushing a huge buffer stream of asset data through the engine at any given second.

ENBHost and Smartload and even CellOptimizer in conjunction with each other, with the smartest and most effective ini edits you can make simply are not enough to make the Creation Engine handle all that stuff.

I know the prevailing belief is that if you have a really good computer the game should be able to handle an infinite amount of mods and I know there are people out there claiming to run 250 mods flawlessly...but....the overall true of matters is keeping your installed mod list under 100 addons in total is simple better for your potential stability on ANY hardware because its not the hardware that is at fault, its the software and the software just can't deal with the load intelligently...if it could, stuff like ENBHost wouldn't be necessary and even that is a third party/half measure that isn't going to make the Creation Engine stop choking on its own vomit and dying when we can't be more conservative with our content additions.

Thanks for taking the time to write that out for me, I appreciate the help. I am going to disable DUEL and consider removing SkyRE along with some other house mods and such, lets hope this helps. I never thought that the level lists could be the cause... Figures. And about the whole engine thing, believe me I have ran into far to many issues with this to understand it, haha. It's ashame that the engine isn't stronger, but what can ya do.

Are you using latest SKSE alpha/sheson memory patch? Consider freemem also if you don't have it.

The memory patch and freemem made my game pretty much CTD free except for the really rare HDT physichs crash, still, the HDT autosaves before it crashesh so that is NEVER an issue :P

Yes, I have used all the utilities in regard to memory and optimization. I am not getting CTD's, just awkward freezing.

If remove those scripted mods, like Duel, then you're still going to have issues because those scripts are still trying to run. They get stuck in the save files themselves. And the number of errors is going to continue to increase with time after removing them. But if you can go back to a save that you have from before adding those scripts you can get around this problem.

Curious about your system specs. And if you wanna get rid of scripts. One thing you could do is switch out realistic needs and diseases for ZF Primary needs, which in my oppinion is a much better alternative. No scripts, nice jar patcher for it's animations. Animations are highly immersive! TOP NOTCH MOD IMO.

Typically if I know that I will be disabling a script intensive mod, I start a fresh save, so usually when I go through and remove script heavy mods, I just start a fresh save anyway. I haven't had a character that I actually played with in months, at the current stage, I am just trying to get full stability anyways, so this isn't much of an issue. I have been starting a fresh character everytime I change scripts or other intensive mods around.

I have actually never heard of this, but I may have to look into it. The one thing I really love about RND though, is the SexLab integration that has been made for it, its completely game changing for me.
