The carpet is a separate object. In order the avoid z-fighting, it has to float above the floor mesh. You can try moving it closer to the floor mesh, but at some point (when viewed from a distance) it will start clipping - the smaller the room, the closer it can most likely be.

Carpet is indeed "thick" but that seems a bit extreme to me for normal "carpet sag". (for me, it usually results in little more than the sole of my foot/shoe being sunken into the carpet)

 

For a quick fix (presuming it's just a temporary glitch) jump to reset player-ground.

 

If it's consistently that way on all surfaces, you might have some sort of 'highheels' issue
