Overlapping textures? What is causing this?

Recommended Posts

Hello as you can see in the pictures the bag accessory (in the gloves slot) seems to somehow overlap with the dress.

I've seen the problem many times before but I have never been bothered enough by it. Tried to use Sims4Studio to change the slot to hat, gloves and ring with the same result.
Searched for a fix but I couldn't find anything with my search terms. I have no clue how slots for textures work in CAS but I would be glad if any of you guys do.

I'm no expert, but I think what you want to do is change the "Sort Layer", not the CAS slot. It's been a while since I fiddled around with S4S, but IIRC, the slot only determines where an item is found in CAS, while the layering is what ensures that the textures aren't overlapping like that (if done correctly, that is).

Here's how to do it, complete with a list of what the different items usually use as their layer value: https://sims4studio.com/thread/2310/cas-sort-layer

Thank you, this seems to be exactly what I was looking for. Will give it a go when I got time.

If I've read somewhere correctly sort layer has nothing to do with this. The cause is how mesh for accessory (or clothes) is mapped in place where clothing (accessory) usually is. If they overlap the texture of accessory will be glitching on any clothes.

The same goes to some 3D eyelashes that are glitching with glasses, nail polish, rings or bracelets. It's because the mesh for them was mapped in space where those other cathegories usually are and thus they clash together.

But I might be wrong. I'm not a cc creator and know nothing about blender and stuff. Could be good to get input from some actual cc creator.

What you are referring to sounds more like a situation where a piece of CC makes other CAS items disappear, e.g. a top hiding necklaces and bracelets. In that case, one would have to change the Region Map entries in the Warehouse tab, IIRC. I have "fixed" a few CC items over the years using S4S (never needed Blender, if memory serves), but like I said, it's been a while since I last did something like this.

Oh, it might be very well I was incorrect about it. All I ever fixed or edited for my liking were skin overlays, skin details, tattoos and swatches. I did not try to fix cc clothes with layers, as it's too complicated for me. I just get rid of the buggy clothes and find different ones.

Okay, I actually googled this again now and I mixed this issue: https://sims4studio.com/thread/18038/solved-mesh-glitches-gets-color with this issue: https://sims4studio.com/thread/25736/controls-cas-textures-layer-top

My bad, you were correct here.

Thanks for the clarification, I didn't know about that other issue. They both look quite similar to each other, which probably explains why some of my attempts at fixing stuff were rather unsuccessful. Guess it's true that every day can be a school day. Cheers!
