Jerbsinator Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 So I'm not sure if anyone on this forum other than me is from Canada but if you are I am sure you have heard about the devastating floods that have hit Southern Alberta. Well I happen to live in Calgary, which has received much of the flooding and large parts of the city are under water, people have been evacuated. The Calgary Stampede (which is the world famous "Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth") is now in jeopardy as it begins in two weeks and right now the Stampede Grounds are under 10 feet of water. It really is absolutely amazing and terrifying what is going on here. My former hometown, High River, which is about 30 minutes South of me, is completely evacuated and it is completely submerged. Towns everywhere are utterly devastated, mainly Canmore, which received most of the rain and thus the worst flood waters. We received 6 months worth of water in two days and the rivers are bursting forth because of it. It truly is an incredible thing to be living in the middle of. I am one of the lucky ones though as my area hasn't been affected (mostly, though there is flooding a few blocks from me). But many others are not so lucky and have been evacuated, many have lost everything. It's truly amazing how everyone has responded though, everyone is helping each other get through this, through food donations, setting up shelters and giving homes to people they have never met. It's truly amazing what has happened here. I hope that if anyone on this forum lives in Alberta I hope you are safe and in a dry place. Here are some pictures:Downtown Calgary The Stampede Track: Inside the Saddledome, which is where our hockey team plays, as well as many major events including the Stampede, the water is 10 rows high, around 10 feet: A bridge in a neighborhood town, completely gone: More pictures: I took these a few blocks from my house: If you want to know more just look up Alberta Floods 2013 on Google.
Angrybird Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Canada looks better than most countries even when its flooded.
Jerbsinator Posted June 22, 2013 Author Posted June 22, 2013 Canada looks better than most countries even when its flooded. True but it is still devastating nonetheless. Don't think for a minute that I don't take it for granted.
