Help re: Animating/3ds Max

To all those animators out there, I have a question;

How do you  import two skeletons without them 'sticking together' in 3ds max? Like, their skeletons share the same (for the lack of a better description) 'root'. This makes it impossible to move them apart.

Or maybe I am asking the wrong question,

is it even possible to create an animation with two actors (with 3ds max)? After hours of searching I found no answer.

If I want to create an animation between two actors, is 3ds max even the right tool?

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm completely new to animation let alone 3ds max.

I am using OpenCollada plugin (1 actor with import/export skeleton and *ColladaActor* to match  pose in a pair)

ps. for right export *ColladaActor* in colldaFormat ,

you need to remove the modifier [bSDismemberSkinmodifier] from the *ColladaActor* body.
