Glitched up combat animation and collision! Need help (possibly FNIS related)

A few minutes ago I started noticing something strange going on with the combat animations in Skyrim.

 

Basically whats happening, is when I swing a weapon (any melee one), everything is normal, but if I swing, then immediately start moving around (like strafing or circling) the animation starts glitching out. If I dont complete a whole "footstep" in one direction, then the swing animation wont complete, it just stays in half swing, looking like Im shaking my axe at the sky (and the player keeps going "YAAH", "NYAH", HUYOAGH"). Also, while this is happening, anyone standing near me gets hit multiple times. The same also applies with NPC's. One hit becomes probably around 5 hits, which makes combat VERY buggy. You only have to press attack ONCE, then start moving, and the player will continue to "glitch-attack" indefinitely, until either I stop moving (allowing the swing anim to complete) or I move long enough in one direction to complete a whole footstep.

 

It seems to coincide (maybe loosely) with FNIS and other animation mods being installed, because this started to happen within a day of installing the new FNIS, and on the same day as installing Pinup Poser. However, I've disabled both of those mods, and any other animation related mod, then made a clean save. It made no difference.

 

I'm running the latest version of Skyrim (1.8.151 or something) and the latest FNIS. It cant be any of the other mods because it only started today and the only mod I installed today was Pinup Poser, and now its uninstalled but the problem remains...

 

Can anyone help me out here? Is this a common problem? Whats the fix?

I've got exactly the same problem but in my case it started after I finally updated skyrim to 1.8.151. Probably happened because I didn't update FNIS. Anyway, I also "onehit" enemies with multiple simultaneous swings if I move but it's also more severe. I have to load my previous save to keep on playing otherwise it will get stuck on loading and after some fights my game just freezes or has a CTD.

I tried running BOSS to fix some problems and update wrye bash but after sorting my mods I only had more bugs. If I unequip armor the body gets Invisible (see attachments).

 

I would be glad if some one knows how to fix this because I do not want to reinstall my game. =/

My personal experience with BOSS (for Oblivion), is "avoid this program like a HIV infected zombie chasing you down the street". No offence to the guy who made BOSS (he's probably around here somewhere, yea, THERE he is, GET HIM!), but I swear, his/her program screwed up my game in more ways I can describe lol. I was told to use BOSS to fix my load order and prevent corruption. Well, after running it, the game was SO messed up it was basically unplayable. Reinstalling didn't help, I ended up having to rearrange around 100 mods, 1 by 1, and it was days before I had them all back in working order again. For me, BOSS basically raped my game to death and left me high n dry. "Like a BOSS", for real...

 

Anyway enough BOSS hating, just dont want other people to have to go through the same sh*t I did back then! Looks like it had adverse effects for both of us!

 

Im not sure about the invisible body glitch, but maybe if you reinstalled your body replacer, things will be okay. Maybe try deactivating all your armor ESP's too, or any mod that has something to do with apparel or the character, see if it works. I had the same problem when trying to equip an object for a body I didn't actually have. I looked at your mod order, but I'm just not savvy enough to see where the problems might lie. All I can suggest is to arrange all ESP's by type. In my list I have all armours/clothing together, and any important/touchy mods at the bottom. My list is STILL probably messed up though lol.

 

Im starting to think there aint gonna be a fix for this broken combat thing though... I dont know WHAT the hell is causing it, and nobody on the internet AFAIK seems to either.

Yeah, BOSS pretty much fucked up my mods and caused the invisible body glitch. I'll try to deactivate the armor mods one by one to see which one is causing it.

 

In my opinion the glitch was caused by either FNIS or the patch or just because the game got patched and FNIS didn't. I patched it and it still bugs, I remember reading something about some mods which break your game even if you deactivate them making your save unplayable.

OK, first off, yes you need to update FNIS to version 3.3.2 if you are running 1.8.151. As Fore mentioned in another post (related thread by the same author), anytime you get an updated version of the game, it can change the behavior files, so there will always be a new version of FNIS for a new game version, and you will need to install it and run FNIS again. My personal preference is to uninstall all FNIS related mods, uninstall the old FNIS, install the new version, reinstall the FNIS mods (installing MLA last), delete the files specified by AP if using AP (even if not using it, look for the files AP specified to delete and delete them), then run the FNIS Generator following the instructions specified.

 

As far as BOSS goes, I've used it for Oblivion, FONV, and Skyrim, and never had 1 issue with it. However, I have also never used Wrye xxash (bash, smash, flash, etc) with it. I've only used it in a stand alone configuration and it works fine. Maybe you should check into Wrye xxash docs to see if there is something you are missing when using BOSS with Wrye xxash. The only thing BOSS does for Skyrim is create a text file in the AppData/local/Skyrim folder called plugins.txt (and one called loadorder.txt which is exactly the same), so I can't see how it broke your game. Again, maybe in combination with Wrye xxash, but not as a standalone...

The thing about BOSS is, it's a guideline, not a cure-all. You have to make tweaks for maximum efficiency, because no two mod lists are alike and drawing from one master list can only go so far. It's best used with something like Wrye, which can make bashed patches that help everything play nice together. I've been using Wrye Smash and BOSS together since August and haven't had a single problem.

Fresh install is what fixed it for me.

 

If you have a lot of mods, and don't use a manager for installing them, you can back up your texture and mesh directories, but delete everything that has to do with FNIS as well as these folders:

/data/meshes/actors/character/animations

/data/meshes/actors/character/behaviors

 

You will have to install all of your FNIS dependent mods after the new install.

 

The fresh install actually helped me a lot, so I think it was really worth it.

In terms of my issues (I'll try to be as indepth as possible): I installed the latest version of Skyrim (1.8.151 final) about a week before I installed the latest version of FNIS from the nexus. At that point I had no previous version of FNIS installed in the game (I really dont know how an AP behavior file got into my data folders... I dont remember ever using that mod). What I did was basically follow the instructions in the description/readme file, so I installed FNIS first, then the optional spells. Next I ran the generator (which warned about not being in the install directory, even though it was packed in the archive as being in the data folder). Anyway I let all that run, and saw that a few hundred animations were "succesfully included". With that, I enabled the relavent ESP's, with FNIS near the bottom but above 'Unofficial Dawnguard Patch'.

 

I ran the game and saw that all the cyclic animations were working as expected, but NONE of the other animations worked at all. So, I quit the game, ran the generator again, and somehow, doing exactly the same thing a 2nd time fixed the problem, now every animation worked. I was happy with the results. About a day later, I installed Pinup Poser, and it worked fine (AFAIK). Another day or so later, I installed MLA, and it "semi-worked" (but its always semi-worked, I assume the mod is just broken or unfinished, so its to be expected in a non-final release). After deciding to delete the mod and all related files, I unticked the ESP's then ran the generator. I assumed it was uninstalled (MLA files dont register with the FNIS generator for some reason, so its hard to be sure). I ran the game and nothing MLA related was there (as expected cos I deleted all related files). THIS, IIRC is when I noticed the combat was now screwed up. I dont know if this is due to MLA being uninstalled, or the FNIS generator.

 

To try and fix things, I made a clean save with no mods active, and found that this added yet ANOTHER problem (the "no you cant stay in FPS mode!" glitch).

 

I still dont know whats going on, and dont have a clue what to even try anymore. I followed all instructions to a T, so I dont see how my circumstances could be any different from the next guy.

 

@Chan, when you made the fresh install, did you untick all your non-FNIS mods too, or leave them active? I'll try a fresh install the next time I get a chance, but I want to make sure I've got everything down properly!

 

About the BOSS thing, I didn't even know what the utility was for, aside from the reason I was told to use it. Annoyingly enough, it had the exact opposite effect to what I was told it would have, and like I said, it messed up the game SO bad, that you wouldn't want to play it, even being held at gunpoint. I wont go through the huge list of things it did wrong to the game, its not important anymore, but I would've been fine with the 6 or so problems I had before using BOSS, without the extra 60000000000 problems that it caused!

Just "unticking" the mods may not be what you need to do. To my knowledge, unticking only disables the ESPs. It doesn't not remove the animations included or the other things installed (meshes/textures/etc). I would completely uninstall the mod (MLA, from your example) through the mod manager you are using (Wrye xxash, NMM, whatever) to remove all of the related bits (or removing them manually), then try running the FNIS generator again.

 

"I really dont know how an AP behavior file got into my data folders" - the mtbehavior.hqx (not sure of specific name) comes from installing AP, not FNIS. And previous versions of AP could be run without FNIS (only the 2.0+ versions of AP are truly FNIS related). The other 2 files AP says to remove are actually rebuilt by the FNIS generator. AP only says to remove them because AP will add them when installing AP.

 

"With that, I enabled the relavent ESP's, with FNIS near the bottom but above 'Unofficial Dawnguard Patch'. - this may be an issue, because from my understanding, the USKP and the USKP Dawnguard patch should be at the top (or near the top) of the load order and the FNIS spell (esp) should be well below the USKP ESPs.

 

"MLA files dont register with the FNIS generator for some reason, " - partially correct. The MLA mod itself is not counted in the total count of mods, however the animation count should accurately reflect the number of animations including the MLA animations. If it appears the animation count is wrong, then there is a something missing from the MLA install. The MLA version from 08/27 needed an extra file called the Pendragon fix. If that files was not there, FNIS did not see the animations, and MLA sex motions 2 and 3 would not display. There is a link embedded in the text line just under the 08/27 version. I am not sure if the new version requires the fix, and there are a couple of other ML versions now.

 

The best way to get a truly clean install is to remove everything from the data folder (copy it somewhere, you can always put it back), then within Steam, right click on Skyrim and select Properties. Go to the Local Files tab and select Verify Integrity of Game Cache. Steam will the download any missing bits to get the game install back to a vanilla state. Once that's done, reinstall the mods you want to use. This will give you a true "clean" install.

Are you using the proper 0_master.hkx file that was included with the new version of FNIS? This only occurred for me if I kept an old version bundled together with an old version of the Momo Acrobatic Jump mod. Overwriting that fixed my swings.

Sorry for the late reply, but I think that this was the cause of my problem as well.

 

Everything I tried to do either resulted in the strawman pose of all actors, or animations not working correctly.

 

Currently using many different animation mods for magic, bows, 2-handed weapons, standing, walking, running, crouching and others. All working great with the new FNIS and installation as per the directions on that mod's site.
