Half-Again

Okay, I didn't intend to add any more parts to this monster, but, well...

In response to my request for BAF prebuild ideas, @Holzfrau brought up combining the horse legs and the Edhildil 3rd Cohort's hips for a sort of half-cyborg satyr. Which is a damn good idea, but unfortunately not one I can build with the parts layout as-is. The beast legs are built on the new Edhildil leg caps, which don't have any native way to connect with the Centurion hip parts from the older Edhildil legs. It's not really feasible to merge the two via zaps, either. The Centurion-based legs don't have the same contours as the human-based leg caps, being a little bit too flat at the front of the leg and much too deep at the back to meet up with the caps without major reshaping, and the triangle lines of its mesh don't match up in a way that would allow for the usual mask and zap method at all. Zapping off the old Edhildil lower leg to use the thighs with the beast shins was also a non-starter, mainly due to the knee sections not really lining up at all. But also, if I'm going to be honest, because I really didn't want to try doing that masking again. There's reasons why I didn't include the old Edhildil disassembled legs in this.

So it didn't look like I'd be able to realize the suggestion. But it was a damn good idea, and I got to thinking about how I'd need to build a way to connect the hips when I got around to making the fully-robotic versions of the beast bodies anyway, so...

This took a few tries to get right. My initial thought was to just drop enlarged copies of the spheres I was using for the shoulder adaptors onto the new legs caps and call it a day, but I was having a hard time getting them to cover the gaps at the inside of the caps without making them too large and ending up way too far forward to meet up well with the joint depressions on the Centurion hips. Next I tried skipping the caps entirely, by copying out the thigh bones I made for the robotic Bikini set and sticking them right in the upper ends of the beast thighs, but the results were not pleasing. The randomly skeletal part didn't suit the design well, and since I needed it to be bodymorph-compliant to work with the existing parts the issues with thin parts in the middle of the thigh sliders popped right back up again. And on further thought I decided that losing the interface with the new Edhildil legs wasn't worthwhile, since it'd cut off that option. In the end I went back to the spheres, but copied over the pipe set pieces I had used to fill in the Bikini leg caps on that set and adapted them to fit, which gave me much more freedom to resize and position the spheres in a workable way.

I couldn't get things entirely perfect. The Centurion-based legs have a very pronounced butt section, to allow them to clear the areas of visible skin in the original design, but there's no real way to get the spheres to both meet up with that contour and stay in line with the legs. So from the side there's a distinct amount of overhang at the back.

But looking at it from the rear it's not all that objectionable, overshadowed as it is by the illusion of golden glutes.

So I'm gonna go ahead and go with this. Need to add it in to the ShapeData files for the distribution versions, which shouldn't take long, and then copy the zap data over to all the BodySlide files I've done for the individual model numbers, which... Okay, that's not actually hard to do, but it is enough of a chore to be annoying. But hey, I knew I would have to do that whenever I wanted to add new parts to this, so it's not like I didn't know what I was getting into. Then I can build some takes on this and see which ones appeal to me enough to make prebuilds.

I haven't actually tested it yet, but these should be able to work decently well with the Gynoid hip caps...

Update: Hm. Well, they almost work well with the Gynoid hip caps. The initial impression comes off quite well...

...and it looks very nice during the normal walk cycle.

But the spheres are large enough that in pretty much any kinda of significant forward extension of the leg, such as sprinting or the vanilla sneaking animation, they clip through the buttcheeks like crazy.

The obvious thing to do would be to shrink the spheres down, but any smaller than this wouldn't look as good with the Centurion pelvis, which is kinda the entire reason these exist. And it might not actually solve the problem since these are only weighted to the thighbone, so as to avoid having them deform during movement. It's likely they'd do this regardless of the size, with that setup. Could probably make another copy of the spheres fitted to the Gynoid body's needs, I guess, but I'm not entirely happy with adding yet more parts for this. Was annoyed enough at needing the pipe caps.

Eh, I'll poke around at it some more after work.
