Body dds file to outfit?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if I understand your question.  Bodyslide and Outfit studio are useful in converting mesh files (*.nif) files to primarily support different body shapes, but also to mix and match outfit pieces or do editing on the meshes themselves.  While it's in Outfit Studio's capabilities to edit material references (the files that point to *.dds textures), in my opinion, this is a convenience benefit so one does not need to use nifskope.

What are you trying to do?

Perhaps a bit of terminology might help here - to make sure we're thinking about the same things:

Skin - a texture which is painted onto a mesh, in itself, it is not shapeable directly.

Mesh - the in-game shape of the body/gun/outfit/item etc. - the thing that takes up space and defines the overall shape of the object

If you are trying to overwrite the skin, that is a texture change and will not alter the shape of the object, in this case a body.  Use Photoshop, GIMP, Paint.net, etc. for this task.  Outfit studio can help you change a "skin" (texture) of an object - but it's not the ideal tool for that.  OS will change only what the *.nif file is pointing at. e.g. a material or direct texture reference.  It will not help you alter the skin/texture itself.

If you are trying to change the mesh (in your case a body shape) within the clothing/armor, then yes - Outfit Studio is the tool you want.  OS is designed to alter the shape and make-up of mesh files.  You can resize, cut, add, combine, or delete meshes within Outfit Studio.

See here for references and tutorials on Outfit Studio.

That being all said, specifically what are you trying to do with BS/OS?  This is an extremely helpful community on LL - many of us would be more than happy with help with your project.

Ah yes.... NMM didn't put it in the correct location.  Unpack up the zip file on your desktop.  You should have a Bodyslide folder.  Add a folder called Tools next to the bodyslide folder.  Drag the bodyslide folder into the Tools folder you just created.  Then create a Data folder next to the tools folder, and drag the Tools folder in the Data folder.

Then re-zip it and add it to your NMM.

The path for NMM to install it to the correct place is:  ../Fallout4/Data/Tools/Bodyslide....

Correct, it appears as an Outfit in the Bodyslide menu - like all other outfits and bodies.  But if you slide it (or inspect the bodyslide files) you will see that it exports the body to:

meshes\actors\character\characterassets\femalebody.nif

Which is the female npc's default body location and file.  This will effectively replace all female NPC bodies with this body.  This is not an armor you equip.
