any tips for editing a head?

I tried to make an edited version of the vanilla khajiit head, but using the vanilla tri+egm seems to cause spikyness, and conformulated tri+egm has problems like the lips being sealed shut.... and a mix of the two upsets construction set and simply makes the head disapear.

 

So any way to make everything work fairly easily, I understand creating a new head was pretty hard, and was hoping editing one would be easier. I tried updatetri by gerra6, but unsure how it should best be used.

 

* edit: It has come to light that my 3d molding program re-orders vertices, anyone have a decent blender tutorial for interface/UI/controls so easy a caveman could understand?
