Dragon Age Inquisition Banter

The banter system in Dragon Age Inquisition is not thought out well with the world design. Some might even say it's not thought out well at all.

The problem lies with the manner in which the system works.

In this post I'll try to explain how it works and supply a fix.

First of all - How it works:

In DAI the companions will start their internal banter after a count down of between 600 or 900 seconds and a random chance.

This means that sometimes the random chance will yield no result several times.

The countdown can also be disrupted by things such as combat, engaging talk with npc, fast traveling, and cut-scenes.

The level design of the different areas of Thedas is executed so you'll almost always experience an encounter between the 600-900 sec.

So the countdown is often disrupted.

Combine this with the random chance that the banter won't start anyway, and you have the explanation why many believe they have a Banter Bug that causes to be limited in their gameplay.

So, is there a solution? Well, Bioware heard of the bug and tried to patch it - but you can't patch what's not a bug (and to change the base way it works they certainly didn't).

Thankfully, but sort of iconic too, the only way to change this is via the Cheat Engine. Due to no mod support, and little general support. Sad really.

Solution:

You must download Cheat Engine and the attached file to this post.

Place the file (DAI Banter) somewhere, no need to open Cheat Engine.

Now start up Dragon Age Inquisition, load your save.

Return to where you placed the file. Open the file, click Yes to keep, and press the 'Active' box next to 'Toggle Banter [num2]'.

Return to your game.

Now every time you want your companions to start banter press 'Num 2'.

This will change the count down time to 5-15 seconds, so you won't have to wait 600-900.

The random chance remains, but now you won't have to wait ages for its judgement.
