ENB help

The quickest and easiest solution to try:

[Effect]

EnableAdaptation=true

It tries to mimic how real eyes adapt to darker and lighter areas by normalizing the difference. If that is already set to true or you change it to true and find things still too dark, report back, and I'll be happy to try figuring it out with you.

Btw, mine is set to false because I like it that way, though it also depends on the quality of your monitor. On my lesser monitor, no way would I turn it off.

nothing noticable from that change. what i mean is its too damn dark inside a dungeon. I can kill a bandit in a dark part and if i don't pay REAL close attention to where he died i can walk right past the body. for example in the first mine you come across when you begin a new game. the one where the guy goes to slee and the other starts patrolling. if i didnt know where the mats were i would miss the guy completely, its THAT dark in some spots. I need it to be lighter.

its so dark i HAVE to use a torch or i wont know where im going. this is especially true for some parts in the beginning mine. i removed all the torches i could and i literally did not know which way to go because it was SO dark.

i use a 2 hander so switching from a torch i need to use so i can see and then to a 2 hander is a killer for me. Im fighting a guy in total darkness. the AI doesn't need light to see you. even sneaking they can still see you in total darkness. so if i could make it lighter without losing the lighting form fires and large braziers that would be amazing.

someone needs to make a mod where the detection rate while sneaking depends on the light source hitting you. Think THIEF sneaking. I need to be able to mask my prescense by dousing torches with water arrows and use moss arrows for stone and metal floors.

what do i need to change to make caves' date=' dungeons etc not so damned dark?:-/ i already turned off Depth of field because it was making me dizzy. it goes off anytime someone walks in front of the camera. ugh.

Strange, did you have this problem before installing ENB? Are you using an ENB preset or your own? If the former, which preset? I think some of them come with Dark Dungeons for ENB, so you should get rid of it if you have it.

Is your in-game brightness already at 1? If so, try setting it slightly higher, although this will also affect outside brightness.

Link to comment

Yes, I got that the first time. Dungeons are too dark for you. What's odd is that my suggestion should had made a noticeable difference. Adaption makes darker areas lighter and bright areas darker. It's quite noticeable. It won't always make dark areas bright enough for your liking but it should still be brighter. By your response, it sounds like it was indeed disabled (set to false) and then you enabled it and saw no difference??? Are you sure of yourself here? If so, this tells me you have some odd version where someone tweaked the adaption settings further down below in the settings and then they still decided to disable it, probably after frustration. So, I'm guessing the rest of their settings are probably off too. This can be a big problem because changing the lighting for dungeons is not independent of outdoor settings, nor inside buildings, so could make other places look horrible. Also, some ENB versions like mine use bloom to light much of the scene while most others don't. So a solution isn't as easy as it might sound. That's why I started with an easy thing to try first.

So whose ENB presets are you using and have you asked them about this?

Can you cut and paste your ENB settings here? This will actually help any of us trying to help you more than anything. If it is indeed a problem with ENB and not your Skyrim settings or your monitor calibration, then we need to see this.

How do your dungeons look when you disable ENB? (F12 or Shift + F12 will disable ENB, if you didn't know.) In other words, does your vanilla Skyrim look fine?

Also, you could try something else real quick. Delete the enbseries file (the one with all the settings you tweak) but leave the other ENB files (after making a backup saved to another folder, of course). Then start Skyrim and you should have a newly created default enbseries file with the default settings, which aren't that dark, or shouldn't be. It's an excellent preset to start with as intended by the original author himself.

these are whats in the ENBseries file. the one screenshot inside that first mine is exactly how mine looks but the dark parts are WAY too dark to see anything, not even the ground texture. if there was an ore node on a wall outside of a torch i wouldn't be able to tell its so dark. Ah, I use Superb ENB-RL v0.52, and I think dungeons look fine. I've heard some people complaining v0.63 looks too dark. You want to get this mod, though, for all ore veins in general. :)

Here is the readme for Superb ENB-RL:

iii. Nights/Caves/Dungeons Too Dark?

(a) Increase in-game brightness until you can see comfortably without washing out the colours too much.

(B) Search for Realistic Lighting.ini settings that may be more suitable for your tastes and adjust accordingly.

or © Try sung9533's personal Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini settings. Copy and overwrite your own .ini settings.

(BACK THEM UP FIRST).

If your version of Superb ENB-RL came with a Realistic Lighting.ini, then try tweaking the settings under Dungeons.

I gave it a spin and totally see exactly what you mean. Shadows are too dark. To fix this to your liking, simply play with upping the value for ambient light intensity at night found toward the middle of the file under [Environment], specifically called:

AmbientLightingIntensityNight=

Most dungeons use night lighting settings. Ambient light is like indirect or scattered light so is what keeps shadows from direct and point light from becoming completely black. If you really want to see well, try putting in values of 3 to 5. You can get really crazy and go way higher, too. This person's presets that you are using did okay in values for the lighting, so dungeons are fairly dark like with most others' presets, but forgot about shadows.

Personally, I don't like this person's presets at all. I think it's silly how many of this person's values go out to several decimal places given that such precision makes no sense. One decimal place is all that is needed. It makes me suspect he/she was using a calculator instead of his/her eyes or just wanted the numbers to look more intimidating and impressive to a nube should they glance at the settings.

If you want to try someone else's, ENBPM is one I'd recommend:

http://enbdev.com/enbseries/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=303&sid=662785e3893c43e7b8bed3fc4f6966e7

However, this one does have its own quirk where snow and ice and anything white kind of glows. I've tweaked it to my liking though.

Edit/PS: You may notice that after adjusting one value, like for the shadows, other things look off or aren't as visually stunning, like a burning torch might not be as bright in contrast and no longer stand out as much. This is a problem with just tweaking one value. That's why I recommend starting with either the original default enbseries or finding a version that you really like which doesn't have anything really big bothering you, then maybe just sticking with small tweaks from there.

I can only speak for the settings pasted in this thread. And, granted, I didn't download from the Nexus so don't have access to the included color palate if there was one. But the above doesn't match what I saw when giving it a spin. It's not that dungeons are too dark. They aren't. Rather, it's that the shadows are too dark. So the author's solution for people to try adjusting brightness is all wrong. That will just washout everything.

But I do like the other mod you linked to earlier, the one that changes the setting for which locations use night lighting. That's brilliant for us ENB users!

Glad I could help!

Anyone using ENB with the latest version of Skyrim with success? I hear it's broken now and haven't tried it. Is there a way to use a legit version of Skyrim without Steam updating it or must one find an alternative version?

Link to comment

Cool. I guess I'd just assumed the worst. The last update broke my game (underwater was black), though that was before I'd recently reformatted and fresh installed my OS and everything. Though I hadn't played Skyrim yet until just now.

Yeah, I just tried using ENB's creator's new beta version, Boris' v0.114 beta sky lighting test, and it works fantastically with the latest Skyrim update. I like to start with the creator's version and tweak from there. Plus, I don't use Nexus. Been banned and no intention of circumventing it.

Hmmm, maybe I'll start playing again...
