DupaStupid Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 So I really liked, - attack on titan (loved the hopelessness feeling) - gantz season 1&2 (super gory. This show must have subliminal messaging because its been a long-time since I got hooked on a show) - darker than black - death note - akame ga kill! - Ghost in the shell (re-watched it at least 5 times, all movies and seasons.) - Psycho Pass 1&2 - Claymore I've seen most of the mainstream, usual recommended shows. What i'm looking for is stuff like I mentioned above, gritty, dark, hopeless, ect. More adult oriented, not porn wise, but i'm okay with rape scenes or if it involves sexual violence or casual sex. I'd really like to avoid shows where it makes sense for the person to get assaulted, raped but doesn't happen. I really liked the attempted rape scene in Claymore because it made sense. A further idea into what i'm looking for is a show, can't remember whats it called, where a spaceship landed on a planet, broken down I think, and the crew was tortured and raped. The goods guys showed up in later episodes and saved the remaining crew. It was in English btw. So, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm okay with subtitles, but rather find English shows.
Koko.Hekmatyar Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 There are way to many anime shows out there to name or even remember so I'll just leave this here you can look through it and see if anything I've watched catches your eye. http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Saireen
Killing Joke Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 When looking at your list and what you like, first names popping out of my mind are Serial Experiments Lain and Texhnolyze. Not very accessible though.
j.smith42 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 If you like hopeless and dark, I know a few titles you'd enjoy, some a bit hard to find in physical form, but hey, this is the internet, it's out there somewhere: Berserk: The Godfather of dark hopless Anime, came out in two forms, based on the same Manga. One is the Television series, which is about twenty years old or so at this point but it's a classic. The other is a series of movies that are still being released and are trying to tell the whole story of the manga, which is absurdly long at this point. In all honesty, read the manga, but be warned... there's a metric ton of rape in the Manga and I'm only slightly exaggerating. Both Anime versions limit it but some people rave about the Manga, so I figured I'd bring it up. End of Evangelion: SImply put, this is the last two episodes of the Television Series Neon Genesis Evangelion re-released as the second part of a movie series and in my opinion, it's Hideki Anno giving the entire Eva fanbase the finger. It's dark, hopeless, but it's also extremely well put together and action packed. Deadman Wonderland: Haven't watched much of this but I watched enough of it to suggest it for this list.

Not very accessible though. Love what you brought up Kiling, Lain is amazing, really never got into texhnolyze though.
DupaStupid Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Def going to check out Texhnolyze and berserk. I've seen the original evenglion and watched the 1.11, 2.22, and 3.33. The last part that wrapped the show up really sucked imo. The main character was a little too girly and whiny for me.
j.smith42 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 meh, that's kind of shinji's thing in the series. There's an entire speech in End of Eva, one character's final speech before she dies in fact where she pretty much rips shinji a new one for being such a whiny coward before ordering him to actually fight. Didn't work, but the final fight in End of Eva was NERV's execution anyway. Oh, and if you watch Berserk's TV version... don't let the theme song scare you off... yeah it's Engrish, yeah it's unintentionally hillarious,
Koko.Hekmatyar Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Deadman Wonderland: Haven't watched much of this but I watched enough of it to suggest it for this list. I don't know if I'd recommend that one yeah it's good but it's also incomplete. It didn't do as well as they hoped so it only got that one season.
DupaStupid Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi seems like a good one to start with.
j.smith42 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 @Saireen: Very true, but Berserk never got a second season outside of the Manga. I know he's nowhere near finishing it too so god knows how many different parts the series will end up with. I'm just glad the movies are past where the series ended.... Is there a manga for deadman wonderland?
j.smith42 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 lol yeah i've heard of Mnemosyne. If you're looking for stuff with a bit more extreme content, you should look for Cool Devices... lol a bit old, but it's hentai that went places no one else did until much, much later.

j.smith42 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 @Saireen: I read a bit of the gantz manga and when i saw the show even I was a bit disappointed. Did youever see any of FLAG?

LordJerle Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Dragonball. http://youtu.be/B5Fkcamknr0 Guy and girl fight. Guy beats girl. Guy marries girl. Guy has two kids with girl and becomes one with the eternal dragon. Romance at its finest.
Koko.Hekmatyar Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 The Dragonball Franchise is ok but it's also just like all the others such as Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, and even Fairy Tale. They encounter an enemy so strong they don't think they can beat them then lo and behold a deus ex machina appears and they beat the enemy. Rinse and Repeat

Guest Spikes Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Parasyte the Maxim. Wait till it's over, still airing, current ep 15 or 16 of 24. Great anime.

I have some other names to throw at you, not the freshest and you maybe already know them, but who knows - Gunnm (last order): there are 2 OAVs that I've watched a long time ago, don't know if they aged well, but it's worth a try, and you should definitely read the mangas. - BLAME! : also a dark cyberpunk manga, you will enjoy it - Ergo Proxy: not as dark and gritty, but still interesting to watch. - Akira: part of "things you must read before dying", a classic
DupaStupid Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 I've watched and loved Ergo Proxy and Akira. Mangas isn't my thing.
DupaStupid Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 About to finish Berserker and totally luv it. Whats the first movie that picks up where the tv show left off at? And are the movies in English, easy to find for sale?
Damicles Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 If you want a dark anime horror go and watch shiki think salems lot and you get the gist of the show. http://www.watchcartoononline.com/anime/shiki
DupaStupid Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 Vampire Hunter D? I'm kind of tired of vampire stuff right now. I'd like to find stuff like Beserk but with rape and more torture.
