Skyrim NPC Editor?

Hi guys. So I've been playing on a working Skyrim game and now I'm trying to tweak it to fit my tastes.

 

I've wanted to change the stats on some of my companions and it seems like the only way to do so is through the Skyrim NPC Editor (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/4554/?). Unfortunately, the vanilla companions I do have are all edited through mods (Bijin Warmaidens and Seductress Serana for example) and I have one custom companion.

 

Does anyone have any experience with this tool? Would I be able to safely edit the NPC's with this tool? How would I go about doing so?
