Textures don't Match the Mesh

Hey Guys/Gals could you all help me PLEASE!! :blush: 


I for some reason Can't get a Texture to match the Mesh it comes out looking well I guess.... deformed


I would go to add a material & a UV map & this is what I see--->





so I continued on till I got it into game & this is what it looks like is game---->





& this is what it should look like--->





Any ideas what I might of done wrong or what I can do to get the textures to show up the way it was intended?


BTW I am using Blender 2.49
