How can I edit an .esp file to change the names of the files it uses?

If it uses the same textures you would need to rename the meshes, open the mod in the ck and redirect the items to use the renamed meshes. I did that with another mod that I made some variations of the mesh. If the esp names are the same you would probably need to create a new esp (open the original but don't set an active esp and duplicate all the items and  change those). If they use different textures but they are named the same as the other mod it would require opening the meshes in nifscope and change the textures there as well.
