What is Dead Island?

Dead Island is an open world, role-playing action survival game created by Techland and published by Deep Sliver. It was released in September 2011 for North America and the PAL region while being released in October 2011 for Japan. Dead Island is currently available for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Playable Characters

There are 4 playable characters in Dead Island by default with 1 extra being obtainable by purchasing the Ryder White DLC. All the storylines are the same with the exception of Ryder White, if you have the DLC.

Xan Mei

Xan Mei is a desk clerk at the Royal Palms Resort in Banoi. She is the Bladed Weapons expert of the group who is nicknamed the "Assassin" due to having high damage due to her nature with bladed weapons as well as her high stamina and extraordinary speed. She has the lowest health of all the playable characters in the game making her hardest hero to play.

As a blade specialist her skills focus on making her attacks with bladed weapons stronger. Mei has exclusive bleed weapon effects which only she can use and obtain. The effects are similar to the bleed effect on blunt weapon mods, however sharp and bladed weapons naturally do not have this ability. Mei can learn survival skills which enhance her stamina and effectiveness of health kits used on her.

== Fury Skill ==

Her Fury Skill is to attack enemies with a short knife in a blinding frenzy of stabs and slashes.

Logan Carter

Sam B

Purna

Ryder White

Bloodbath Arena DLC

At the moment I am playing the game with a friend. The only downside is I only get to play it when she is free to play it as well. This is because I started a new character and joined in her game she was hosting, this means that all of my progress is only accessible with her hosting. If I try and play the game by myself, I have to start from the beginning again.

Yes it means that it will take me longer to complete this guide, but hey!

A promise is a promise :) and I promised I wouldn't continue with the game without her.

Right now I can't play it even if I wanted to as I uninstalled from my computer earlier today.

Lots of folks have dumped on this game but I honestly had a blast playing both DI and the addon.  Course I am a zombie nut so maybe that explains it.  I have completed the game 3 or so times and probably will start a fourth play through after Christmas.  Blasting zombies is just too much fun!

I've had a hell of a blast playing Dead Island, even Riptide. Passed DI1 about 3 or 4 times. I never really got all the shit people gave it and how much complaining people made about it being buggy as I never came across any bugs during gameplay (same with other games with many reported bugs). Sure the story of it was kinda lame, the characters bland and uninteresting and really playing almost the same, bar the character specific skill and skill tree, but that's not what the game was about, it was about chopping/beating/shooting zombies on an island paradise....for the first of the game...

But thinking back, I think a lot of the bad press the game got from gamers was they were judging the game based on the trailer (which I personally didn't feel anything for) and the didn't match up to what the trailer showed. I didn't bother with the arena addon, I'm not a big fan of that kind of DLC and I didn't like the tiny arena part in the game. I played a bit of Ryder White, but gave up quite early into it, don't feel I missed anything by not finishing it.
