What's causing the visual to go like this? (see screenshot)

Hi all,

 

I don't know what this is mesh/texture; so wasn't sure how to title post, but couple of instances this has happened. Seems like it's always there for vault 88 (screenshot). Weird thing is that you can "fall in it," almost like falling to another level.

This is a ce feature that occurs due to a lack of video memory and access to sdd/hdd. The reason is that ce does not know how to work correctly with mipmaps. Ce requires one of the options... 1. A lot of video memory, 2. All textures with mipmaps in the scene are the same resolution, 3. Disable mipmaps (physically, convert all dds in the scene so that there are no mipmaps), 4. Reduce game permission. 5. Only the devil knows, experiment in the ini settings. The simplest way is to reduce uGridsToLoad to 5.

Oh damn, that's crazy and was not expecting something that complex sounding going on behind the scenes.

 

I'm running it on M2 ssd and 4070 ti lol.

 

I was wondering is "ce" and abbreviation of something? Google results is too varied.

 

I'll try what you said, it's only happened a couple of times.

ce is the fo4 engine, the creation engine. ) I used to love building huge settlements in huge sandboxes of my own (this was back in the era of video cards with 2 gigabytes of memory, in ~16-17). My sandboxes sometimes reached a distance of ~500k from the workshop). The problem in your screenshot absolutely always arose when the buffer overflowed at a distance exceeding ~14k from the workshop. I think this is influenced by the uGridsToLoad parameter and some ce limitation for buffering cells. Try experimenting to understand the cause of the problem. First make uGridsToLoad = 11. Check for changes.
