UI scaling weirdness after Windows 11 upgrade

Recommended Posts

Not so much a request for help as documenting my experience after drinking the Win11 kool-aid.

The game *works* after upgrading my desktop to Windows 11, but there are a couple of extra hoops to jump through to make it look *right*.

Since my 'monitor' is really a 50" 4K TV, I have scaling set anywhere from 200-250%. Less than the recommended 300%. My game is set to run at 1080p. On the first attempt at a session after a Windows restart, the game will constantly minimize to the desktop before the EA logo ever appears. I have to drop the desktop scaling below 150% to get the game past that point. Subsequent sessions will load as usual regardless of desktop scaling settings.

BUT... If auto scaling is on, the UI is HUGE, with an alert that it needs to be turned off. Once I do that, the UI is at an acceptable size, with the exception of the mouse cursor. It's still way too big. I need to drop to windowed mode and back to fullscreen to get the cursor to get to the proper size. I have to do this with all sessions at present.

If the desktop and the game are running at the same resolution, or I just turn down scaling to 100%, none of the above happens.

And of course EA's response is "Windows 11 is not supported." Well get on it, then.
