Changing default race?

Is there a way to change the textures and meshes of a default race, to a custom race? The only thing I could think of was to go into the ck, and manually change the race (which takes forever )

Edit: My question is, if I download a custom race (like children of the sky) is there a way I can have the textures+meshes replace the default ones for nord/imperial/etc, so that when I play the game, the npc's are the children of the sky race?

Technically you could use the mesh and texture from the children of the sky as a replacement under the 'meshes/actor/character/character assets' folder for meshes and 'texture/actor/character/female and/or male' folder for textures. But that would be rather messy.
