Play as NPC temporary?

For a mod I'm planning I'd love to have the option to let the player play as other characters. Say, the dragonborn is dreaming and sees himself as someone else, or the player plays the follower, while the dragonborn is in prison(ideally with the option to bust him/her out). Perhaps, kinda like the Ciri miniquests in Witcher 3.

 

Anybody have a clue for an existing mod/quest I could use for an example or even as a framework?

I beleive similar thing is done in alternate actors.

Apocalypse has a spell that lets you take control of enemies. I think its called Mind Control.

Alternate Actors

I knew about "alternate actors" but didn't actually think about it, in this aspect. This might just work. Thank you very much.
