Sunnstor Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 Hello, just when I was sure to have seen the most curious bugs this game is capable of, there is something to surprise me: Rather suddenly, the sneak skill changed into an instant detection skill. As soon as I press the sneak button, every enemy in the area will detect my character. Hiding behind walls and doors or behind NPCs doesn't work anymore. Its like sneaking is a way to make everybody constantly knowing where my character hides. I'm currently playing "From the Deeps", and this happened after the part where I had to escape from the wrist / ankle cuffs and plan my revenge, but I couldn't find anything related to this mod theis producing this new sneak behaviour. Is this a known bug and if yes, is there a way to get rid of it?
Wolborg Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 OMG, I was just recently wondering why the wolves in distance would mind their own business if I just stood there, but as soon as I went into sneak mode, they would notice me and attack. I thought it was because of a mod I had installed. I have been testing many mods recently, keeping some and discarding some. This sneak weirdness must be caused by one of those mods.
Wolborg Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 is there a way to get rid of it? I have a suggestion. Please tell me which ones of the following mods you are using. That should help us to narrow the problem down somewhat – because it is likely that the fault lies with a mod we are both using. It seems to me like something with the game engine went mad (due to script stress maybe?!) and is now rooted in the save game. I tried to get rif of it by using invisibilty potions (Nothing, still instant detection when pressing the sneak button) and increasing the sneak skill by trainers, but without effect. It is like the Sneak skill is inverted ?!
Wolborg Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 those don't seem very likely to cause this damn issue. Yeah, I totally agree with you. It seems to me like something with the game engine went mad (due to script stress maybe?!) and is now rooted in the save game. ! This can be verified. Start a new game, for example by entering the console command "COC Riverwood" in the main menu and walk to, like, Windhelm, past Valtheim. You will surely encounter some wolves on the road so you'll be able to see how they behave when you sneak or don't sneak. The same with the bandits at Valtheim. I'll do the same. It hadn't occurred to me until I read you reply.
Sunnstor Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 Starting a new game with the same mods does not include the Sneak detection feature, and it also happened first after several hours of playing (Character is level 20+), so I'm pretty sure its something messed up in the save game. I'm not sure how the Skyrim sneak system does work, but there has to be some values / settings which can be changed by using the console to revert this ridicoulus bug. It does not seem to be connected to the sneak skill itself, because this is still 38. There has to be another settings responsible for detection (Like noise, or some kind of spell effect which alarms creatures if the sneak key is pressed?). This is by far the most idiotic bug I encountered in this game so far (And it is my 4th playthrough ).
Cymoril Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 I had the same bug in my game. I could go undetected near anyone and as soon as I switched into sneak mode I was instantly detected. I loaded an earlier save and played with it but suddenly I got this detection bug again, so I took a closer look at my charakter values in the console. It turned out that there is a value named "SneakMod" with default at 0. In the working saves it was still at zero but in the bugged save it was at a ridiculous high negative value at about -100000 (I don't remember the exact figure.) It was possible to fix it by using the console command "player.setav sneakmod <value>" with value at your current figure plus 10. So, If your sneakmod value is currently at -10578.54 the line is "player.setav sneakmod 10588.54". Disclaimer: I don't know if I remember the formula for the setav value correctly. If I'm wrong you just have to work it out yourself...
Wolborg Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Sure enough, when I started a new game, sneaking worked normally. I will try that sneakmod thing. Thanks.
Sunnstor Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 Thank you, that did it! Just one more question: After using the formuar, the sneakmod is now 10.01. I'm not sure if this is the way it should be (Or does it have to be 0?), but this is the value if the character is naked (No magic effects or boosts) and it does not change if moving from shadow to light.
Cymoril Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 As far as I know, the default value for "SneakMod" is exact 0, no matter if the character is clothed, naked or armored. So, it may be that you have to "adjust" the value until it's at 0 again. Just tested it in game. The value stays at 0. To adjust it you can use the prefixes + and - for the value. The problem is, that I don't remember exactly what the needed value is.
