Moving a weapon mod from New Vegas to Fallout 4

I have several weapon mods that are currently only in New Vegas and I was wondering how to move them to Fallout 4. I found that simple editing in tesnip wont be enough so a new .esp file will need to be created which isn't a huge deal except when assigning the gun model to the custom mesh I placed in the data folder, it really doesn't like that mesh/texture set. I will note that the mesh does contain nitristrips instead of nitrishapes which has been known to cause problems. Is there anything that can be done to fix this issue without needing to completely redesign the model from scratch?
